Tropes

  • Big Damn Heroes: Just as Dabi tries to kill Endeavor and Hawks following the High End Nomu attack, Mirko arrives to intervene, forcing him to escape.
  • Calling the Old Man Out: Shoto's brother, Natsuo, doesn't hide his hatred towards their father, Enji/Endeavor, for his past abuse of his family. Enji's actions that left Shoto scarred and landed their mother Rei in a psychiatric ward notwithstanding, there was also an unexplained incident between him and another member of the Todoroki family, an older brother named Toya. Enji is unable to make any excuses and instead vows to make amends, though Natsuo doesn't buy it.
  • Double Agent: Hawks' meeting with Dabi, as shown at the end of the last episode, is expanded on and it's revealed that the two are tentative allies with each other. However, it's later shown in a flashback that this is a front tasked by the Hero Safety Commission for Hawks to infiltrate the League of Villains and find out their plans. Naturally, Dabi is not yet convinced to introduce Hawks to the League's boss.
  • Easily Forgiven: Enji's children have an overall zigzagged opinion for their father's attempt at atonement. Fuyumi is willing to try and patch things up, but Natsuo has no interest in giving him a chance yet. Shoto is right in the middle.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: While twisted and possessive, All For One is shown to have genuinely loved his little brother, as he chooses to imprison him and give him a quirk (that he makes sure his frail body could handle) in an attempt to get his brother to join side, even though he easily could have just killed him to stop his rebellion,
  • Eye Scream: Subverted. Endeavor almost loses his left eye during the fight against High-End, but manages to save it. It's shown after his recovery that he now sports a huge scar in his face that almost mirrors Shoto's own, and Shoto himself casually mentions it.
  • Faux Affably Evil: The man who would become All For One displays some generosity towards those suffering because of, or without, Quirks (formerly known as "Metas"). He can take those powers away and give them to others, and all he asks is to have those he helped return a favor when needed. His brother knows that the man is simply exploiting their predicament for his own agenda. When the man forces a Quirk on his brother, he claims that he's doing this out of love for him, which may be partially true, but admits it's also a way to force him into becoming an ally.
  • I'm Standing Right Here: When Natsuo decides he just can't go through with their family dinner, Fuyumi urges him to "at least pretend you don't hate [Endeavor]!" Endeavor, who is standing a few feet away, comments that he can hear her clearly.
  • Memetic Mutation: In-Universe, the Fanboy telling people to not lose faith in Endeavor has become a national sensation nicknamed "Can't You See-kun"note , complete with merchandise, as well as inspiring others to support the new #1 Hero.
  • Noodle Incident: Played for Drama. Natsuo calls out Endevor for something that happened to his older brother named Toya. While not explained, the incident is one of the many reasons why he refuses to forgive his father.
  • Out of Focus: Most of the episode focuses on Hawks and Endeavor's family, though Shoto is present. The rest focuses on All For One and his brother from Midoriya's vision.
  • The Reveal:
    • A flashback shows a meeting between Hawks and Dabi, revealing that both of them had set up a way to test the High End Nomu, but neither expected how it would end up. Dabi never expected the new #1 Hero, Endeavor, to be involved, and Hawks didn't want the Nomu to attack the public.
      • There is also a reveal that Hawks is actually a Double Agent working for the Hero Safety Commission, to infiltrate the League of Villains.
    • Midoriya witnesses in his dream an encounter between All For One and his unnamed brother, who would be the first wielder of One For All. This shows the Big Bad's motives and what would lead to the origin of the Quirk he and [formerly] All Might possesses.
      • All For One's reason for giving his brother a quirk is revealed to have been done both out of love and to force him into submission.
      • He also sees a clearer view of three of the other seven users for One For All.
    • Midoriya hears in his vision the term "Meta", a term for superpowered individuals that would be later changed into "Quirk". He later hears All For One's brother mention to him that they are past the "Singularity Point".
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Natsuo lasts mere seconds after Endeavor arrives before bailing on dinner. When Endeavor tries to stop him, he unloads on his father.
  • This Is Reality: In a twisted zigzag regarding a world of superpowered individuals. All For One and his brother compare their ambitions to that of a superhero comic book. All For One compares his goals to the middle of a series where the villain/Demon King comes out on top. The brother compares the series in full where the Hero wins in the end. The creation of One For All now have both of them fighting to see who can invoke this better, and now Midoriya has taken the mantle of the brother's ambition.
  • Wham Line: Dabi retreats from his attempt at finishing off Endeavor, but delivers this by acknowledging his real name.
Dabi: ...And don't you dare get killed, Enji Todoroki!
