"Moving Into Dorms" is the thirteenth episode of My Hero Academia's third season, and the 51st episode overall.

The day where Class 1-A move into their dormitories has arrived.

After Aizawa gives them all a harsh warning regarding the "Kamino Incident", and Bakugo having Kaminari break the tension soon after, the students are given a tour. They later hold a contest to see who has the best interior design skills among all of them, and visit everyone's bedrooms (except for Bakugo's, since he's asleep; Tsuyu's, because she wasn't feeling well; and Mineta's...just because) to judge.

  • Midoriya's room has wall-to-wall All Might merchandise and memorabilia.
  • Tokoyami's room is dark and contains an assortment of occult items, much to his embarrassment.
  • Aoyama's room, in stark contrast to Fumikage's, is flamboyantly decorated with sparkles, lights, and several mirrors as well as a suit of armor.
  • Ojiro's room is standard compared to the others. It makes the girls think he hasn't started unpacking.
  • Iida's room has several book shelves, plus several pairs of spare glasses, since working as a hero means needing frequent replacements.
  • Koda's room has several stuffed animals, and even a pet bunny.
  • Kirishima's room has a lot of exercise equipment, along with other typically "manly" things.
  • Shoji's room is extremely minimalist, containing only a futon and a few other pieces of furniture.
  • Sero's room is designed in a Japanese style that is well executed. Everyone is surprised at Sero's hidden artistic side.
  • Todoroki's room was radically redesigned in order to resemble something closer to his home. The flooring, in particular, was completely replaced so Todoroki could be more comfortable.
  • Sato's room is also standard, save for the cooking appliances and supplies he brought to work on his quirk. He even had a cake prepared, which the girls love!
  • Mineta's room is completely ignored due to his creepiness as he tried to invite the girls in.
  • Jiro's room, while "unladylike" according to Kaminari and Aoyama, has many musical instruments that she practices with.
  • Both Hagakure's and Ashido's rooms are very girly.
  • Yaoyorozu's room became quickly cramped thanks to the large furniture she brought from home, including a massive four-post bed.
  • Uraraka's room is very sparsely decorated, owing to her being of modest financial means.

In the end, Sato wins the contest because the girls liked the cake he baked.

Later, Tsuyu admits to Kirishima, Yaoyorozu, Midoriya, Todoroki, and Iida that she disapproved of their plan to rescue Bakugo and felt bad when she learned that they still went ahead with it. With everyone okay in the end, she tearfully hopes that things can go back to normal so they can try to have fun again.

Tropes:

  • Accomplice by Inaction: Aizawa tells the students that had it not been for All Might's retirement, he would have expelled the whole class bar Bakugo, Jiro, and Hagakure for their unsanctioned actions during the Hideout Raid — not just the five who went, but the twelve who were aware and did nothing to stop them or warn the adults. He feels the staff's trust in the students is in question, if not lost, and demands they become model students to rebuild it.
  • Bathos: Invoked by Bakugo of all people. After Aizawa's speech visibly depresses the class, Bakugo forcibly invokes Kaminari's Heroic RRoD, the sight of which cheers up his classmates. He then pays Kirishima back for the money the latter spent on the night-vision goggles. Aizawa acknowledges how they actually deserve this break in tension shortly after he just grilled and threatened to expel them.
  • Beam of Enlightenment: Played for Laughs. Midoriya is shown against a lightning background when realizing the implications of checking out everyone's rooms.
  • Breather Episode: A lighthearted, humorous episode that's solely about the class moving in together and bonding. It's sandwiched in between the ending of the hideout raid and the start of the license exams. Uraraka implies that this was directly invoked, as the members of Class 1-A were uncomfortable with the events of the hideout raid and wanted things to go back to normal.
  • Color Failure: Kaminari and Aoyama blanch when Jiro stabs them in the ears after they describe her room as being unfeminine.
  • Crazy-Prepared: The shelves in Iida's room are laden with so many glasses, as he will likely lose a pair in certain hero missions.
  • Dramatic Irony: Aizawa was technically joking/lying about getting the class expelled back during the start of the term, though it was hinted that he was actually serious until he saw Midoriya's attempt in a class test. Here, however, he is deadly serious. No one was hurt this time, but they all royally screwed up by ignoring the rules and if the country wasn't paying attention to All Might retiring, he would have been obligated to expel almost all of them.
  • Dramatic Thunder: Played for laughs; lightning flashes ominously as Mineta suggests that they inspect everyone's rooms, even the girls'.
  • Entertainingly Wrong: Mineta assumes since the boys and girls are all under the same roof of the new dorms, it also means they have coed/shared bathrooms under the same benefit. Aizawa warns him that they most certainly don't.
  • Get Out!: Played for laughs. An embarrassed Tokoyami yells this at his classmates when they poke around his very gothic room.
  • Hidden Depths:
    • Sero's room is stylishly decorated with an Asian flair. The girls lampshade that they didn't know he had it in him.
    • Sato is an excellent cook, able to make snacks, like small cakes, in his room. It proves useful since his Quirk is literally fueled by sugar.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Mineta calls out the girls to show off their rooms since they already saw the boys', even though it's an excuse to enjoy the sights himself. Fortunately for him, he's backed up by the boys the girls bruised the egos of.
  • "No. Just… No" Reaction: Mineta acts super creepy when inviting the girls to see his room. They all turn around and move on to the next room without a word.
  • Pink Means Feminine: Hagakure's room is predominantly pink and pastel-colored, and is mentioned as being just like a normal girl's room. Same with Ashido, but her room is a slightly darker shade of pink.
  • Poster-Gallery Bedroom: Most of the class's bedrooms are shown; the interiors are a tip-off to their personalities (eg. Midoriya's room is an All Might shrine; Ojiro's room is very normal) with some bringing Hidden Depths.
Uraraka: [Iida]'s shelves are all lined with hard books!
Mina: That's the class rep for you!
  • Tender Tears: Tsuyu breaks down into tears at the end when admitting her feelings about her classmates' actions. The sight of it moves Kirishima and Yaoyorozu to tears as well.
  • Testosterone Poisoning: True to his personality, Kirishima's room screams this; his room has a lot of exercise equipment, and his clock even has flexing arms on it. In the dub, he calls his room "a den of manliness". This is played for humor, and the girls are mostly unimpressed. Mina can only just nod once while Hagakure is quick to say that she'd dump a boyfriend who had a room like this. Ochako though is much more understanding, feeling inspired to work out.
  • The Unreveal:
    • Thanks to Mineta's creepiness, we never find out what his room is like inside, as the girls decide to just ignore him.
    • Asui and Bakugo sit out the room competition for their own personal reasons, so we don't see what is inside.
  • Through His Stomach: Gender-Inverted and played for laughs. Sato wins the Room King contest despite having an admittedly plain room because all the girls thought his cake was delicious.
  • You Remind Me of X: All Might tells Midoriya that Inko reminds him of his mentor Nana.

Boys' Dorms

The girls of Class 1-A suggest judging everyone's dorm rooms. The boys' rooms wind up matching their personalities: Deku's is an All Might shrine, Ojiro's is totally normal, Iida's is full of books and glasses, etc.

How well does it match the trope?
