Class 1-A has to elect a class representative, and everyone wants the job! How will they choose? And what lies in wait for them at the next class?

Tropes:

  • Boring, but Practical: Eijiro Kirishima has the power to harden and sharpen any part of his body, but he notes that as a power it doesn't look flashy or exciting at all. Izuku disagrees, but Eijiro is concerned about gaining popularity with such a Quirk.
  • Brutal Honesty: Tsuyu is not afraid to tell her classmates exactly what she's thinking.
  • Cerebus Syndrome: The mood changes at the USJ near the end of the episode. What starts as a lighthearted rescue exercise becomes a real life-and-death situation when real villains arrive.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: All Might just can't stop his frequent hero work, and leave it to the other Pros, on his way to U.A. By the time he makes it, he is unable to maintain his muscular form and is forced to recover at the teacher's lounge before he can join everyone at the USJ.
  • Foreshadowing: A mysterious man is seen at the start of the episode, distanced from a group of reporters who are interested in going through the gate and interview All Might. Later, Nezu, U.A's principal, notices that the front gate was completely destroyed as the reason the reporters got in, suspecting a villain at work. By the end of the episode, the same man arrives in the USJ with a group of villains. The next episode, reveals that the gate's destruction is connected to a Quirk the man possesses.
  • Diverting Power: All Might discovers that transferring his Quirk to Izuku has made his own powers weaker.
  • I Resemble That Remark!: Katsuki really snaps when the others start discussing his temper.
  • Keeping Secrets Sucks: All Might warns Izuku that there is a danger to revealing the true nature of One for All to any one such as Katuski, and must be kept secret to avoid it. There is also the revelation that the Quirk can only be passed on willingly, which means that the wrong person can potentially force Izuku to give it up.
  • Media Scrum: A whole sea of reporters turns up to U.A. hoping to score an interview with All Might and pegging every student they come across on what he's like as a teacher. Goes From Bad to Worse when a villain destroys the security gate and the media group marches onto the campus, causing a security breach. Present Mic suggests forcing them out, but Aizawa warns him that some reporters have a habit to exploiting any lack of professionalism heroes display, instead waiting for the authorities to handle it.
  • Quit Your Whining: Aizawa's advice to Bakugo regarding the Battle Trial: "You're talented. So don't sulk like a child about your loss."
  • Secretly Wealthy: Iida actually comes from a family of extremely famous and wealthy superheroes, but tried as best he could to hide that fact and is in fact very modest about his upbringing.
  • Shout-Out: Class 1-A is quick to notice that the facility known as the Unforeseen Simulation Joint bears the same initials as Universal Studios Japan.
  • Talking the Monster to Death: When confronted by a mob of reporters, Midoriya flees and Uraraka isn't all that helpful. Katsuki angrily tells them to leave him alone, and they should never have asked Iida for an interview...
  • With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility: Thirteen explains that Quirks are certified and regulated, but must be assessed to determine their actual risk to society. The teacher also explains that, depending on how it's used, even the most dangerous Quirks can be used to save people as much as fighting or killing them. Thirteen's Quirk is implied to be such an example, as the teacher is best known to use it primarily on rescue missions.
  • We Need a Distraction:
    • When the U.A. student body gets into a Crowd Panic due to an alarm, Iida attempts to diffuse the situation, with Uraraka's help, he "flies" near the exit to get their attention.
    • Principal Nezu, noting that an ordinary reporter wouldn't be likely to possess the power necessary to disintegrate the security gate, suggests that the media incursion was arranged by someone as a distraction from something else.
