Actual Pacifist: The extortionist doesn't want to kill anyone. Even when he gasses a dog as a demonstration, the dog was merely playing dead.
Batman Gambit: The entire poison gas threat is really Mary Knowles' fiancee Russell causing a panic so that he can break her out of prison during the evacuation. There is no poison gas: Russell merely sent a threatening message to the police and then falsely told them that his chemical plant had sold lots of substances which could make poison gas to a suspicious individual.
Citywide Evacuation: The final ten minutes feature a frantic evacuation of the Cabbagetown neighborhood of Toronto in the face of a Mad Bomber threat. The whole gas bomb threat turns out to be a bluff to cover up freeing a condemned woman from the police during the evacuation.
Epic Fail: George purchases five gas masks to keep the constables safe. There are far more than five constables, and the mask George is demonstrating falls apart when he puts it on.
The Nose Knows: The blind street kid Riley is able to identify that the gas smelled like pineapple.
Open Mouth, Insert Foot: Brackenreid demands to know what the man Riley met looked like, only to learn from Murdoch the boy is blind.
Villain with Good Publicity: Mary Knowles' father was considered a beloved clergyman by the public but was molesting his daughter.
