- Jerk with a Heart of Jerk: Allen Fawkes comes across as a rude and dismissive man for al to of the episode, but does help set a trap for Councilman Dodd, and does seem to make peace with Tesla at the end only for it to be revealed that despite Dodd being guilty of a fair bit, Fawkes was the one who murdered the beauty queen to protect his engagement to a wealthy woman.
- Kick the Dog: The AC Generator was login to electrocute a dog to prove its strength (but electrocuted the victim instead), which drew the attention of quite a few animal rights protestors.
- Murder by Mistake: Speculated when it's revealed that Councilman Dodd was the one who was originally going to flip the switch. ultimately subverted.
- Only Bad Guys Call Their Lawyers: Allen Fawkes response to being presented strong evidence against him is to nervously ask to speak to his barrister.
- Star-Crossed Lovers: George has a good deal of Ship Tease with the head animal rights protestor, but has to investigate her as a possible suspect, which damages any chance of a relationship between them.
