That's what community service is all about.
Kelly: What if there's loads of people like us all over town?
Nathan: No, that kind of thing only happens in America. This will fade away. I'm telling you, by this time next week, it'll be back to the same old boring shit.

Five young offenders are caught in a strange storm while performing community service. The probation officer goes insane and tries to kill them.

Tropes

  • Accidental Murder: They don't want to kill Tony; his Ax-Crazy power caused self-defense reflexes to kick in.
  • Ax-Crazy: Tony's power is not just Hulking Out, he goes violently insane at the same time.
  • Character Focus: Kelly the chav is given early focus, showing how being telepathic bolsters her insecurities as a result of hearing every rude comment said about her and that she uses violence to hide her emotions.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Nathan snarks at all his new companions constantly, much to their annoyance.
Nathan: (about burying two human corpses) I'm pretty sure this breaches the terms of my ASBO.
Nathan: (about Simon's lust-fuelled confession) Probably best to keep that kinda thing between you and your internet service provider.
  • Disposing of a Body: At the end of the episode, the group dump Tony and Gary's bodies underneath a flyover, under the guise of taking two disabled people out for a wheelchair stroll.
  • Everyone Meets Everyone: The titular misfits all meet due to being posted to the same community service detail.
  • Friendless Background: Nathan has alienated all his friends and his mother kicked him out of the house.
  • He's Dead, Jim: After Tony's head is bashed in, Nathan offers a comment. As it turns out, he wasn't dead, prompting Kelly to kick his already-damaged skull in.
Nathan: I'm no doctor, but you see the way the side of his head's all caved in like that...?
  • Interplay of Sex and Violence: Alisha's trick with the bottle is intercut with Kelly running for her life from an Ax-Crazy Tony.
  • Personality Powers:
    • Tony, the short-tempered and constantly frustrated probation officer, starts Hulking Out.
    • Kelly, who is very concerned about what others think about her, develops Telepathy.
    • Simon, who is used to being ignored and bullied, develops Invisibility.
    • Curtis, who is consumed with regret over past failures, becomes a Time Master.
    • Alisha, who uses her physical attractiveness to get what she wants now inspires instant uncontrollable lust in any person who touches her.
  • The Team Normal: Nathan does not have any apparent power. He's not happy about it.
  • Tough Love: Nathan's mother loves him, but kicks him out for antagonizing her boyfriend.
  • Travelling Salesman Montage: Nathan calls various people asking if he could stay with them after being kicked out. Each call ends in rejection.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: Gary is killed off on the group's first day of community service.
