"Nice try, Hawk Moth, but we know who the bad guy is. Let's not reverse the roles here. Without you, none of these innocent victims would be transformed into villains. Hawk Moth, no matter how long it takes, we will find you, and you will hand us your Miraculous!"

"People of Paris. Listen carefully. I am Hawk Moth. Ladybug. Cat Noir. Give me the Ladybug earrings and Cat ring now. You've done enough damage to these innocent people."
Hawk Moth

Adrien goes to school while Marinette still has doubts about her being Ladybug. When Ivan gets turned into Stoneheart again for failing to express his feelings for Mylène, Marinette will have to decide if she's ready to be Ladybug and save Paris with Cat Noir.

Tropes:

  • Actually Pretty Funny: After a stunned Marinette accidentally closes Adrien's umbrella on her head, Adrien bursts out laughing. Marinette joins in after a moment.
  • Ascended Fangirl: Invoked; Marinette slips the Miraculous into Alya's bag, thinking that since Alya is a huge fan of superheroes in general, she'd make a better Ladybug than her. It doesn't work out because Alya forgets her bag, and Marinette has to step up when Alya gets into trouble.
  • Bait-and-Switch: At the end of the episode, Gabriel sternly informs Adrien that he is never, ever to return to school... without his bodyguard, who will be dropping him off and picking him up every day.
  • Blaming the Victim: Hawk Moth attempts to blame the heroes for his completely unprovoked attack on Paris. Ladybug is naturally having none of it, and tells him to stick it where the sun doesn't shine.
  • Call-Forward:
    • Alya eagerly starts planning to get an exclusive interview with Ladybug after missing out on the battle at the Eiffel Tower. This indeed happens in "Mime", which takes place some time after this episode.
    • When Ladybug explains to Cat Noir her plan to bring Stoneheart and Mylène closer together, he admits he doesn't understand it at all, but decides to trust her anyway, saying "Something tells me that this is gonna how it's be from here on out", neatly summing up the dynamic we've been seeing throughout Season 1.
  • Cowardly Lion: Marinette decides to pass the Ladybug earrings to Alya, but Alya runs off to film Stoneheart and forgets her bag, forcing Marinette to chase after her. When Cat Noir is caught and Alya is pinned by an overturned car against a wall, Marinette has no choice but to step up and be a hero, now embracing her role as a hero compared to her apprehension the first time.
  • Darker and Edgier: As this is part two of the origins episode, the Darker and Edgier trope continues. This time, with a near Shoot the Hostage from the police, brutal beating, suffocation/nearly being crushed, and what could be considered a terrorist threat.
  • Easily Forgiven: Mylène to Ivan, and Tikki to Marinette. It takes longer with Marinette to Adrien, however.
  • Epic Fail: Ivan tries to sing his feelings for Mylène, but scares her instead because he chooses loud rock music for his soundtrack and ends up shouting the words more than singing them.
  • Get a Room!: While carrying Mylène and Chloé in his hands, Stoneheart/Ivan comments that he needs to deliver a message at the Eiffel tower, but right after, Mylène and him will be together forever. Chloé sarcastically comments that if she disturbs them, Stoneheart can just let her know.
  • Gibberish of Love: Marinette's trademark stammering when talking to Adrien appears the very moment she falls in love with him. She lampshades that it came out of nowhere, while Tikki says she has an idea where it came from.
  • Gravity Is a Harsh Mistress: When the akuma is freed, Stoneheart turns back into Ivan. Unfortunately, Stoneheart was clinging to the spire of the Eiffel Tower at the time, and now Ivan and Mylène are holding onto nothing.
  • Helicopter Flyswatter: Stone Heart swats at the pursuing helicopters as he climbs the Eiffel Tower carrying Mylène.
  • Heroic Resolve: Seeing Cat Noir being dragged off and Alya nearly being crushed by a car is the push Marinette needs to overcome her doubts and get back into action.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Marinette asserts her newfound confidence by taking back the seat Chloé and Sabrina forced her to move from the previous day, forcing them to move to the front row instead. She even throws Chloé's own words back in her face while doing so, much to the rest of the class's amusement. Chloé is enraged.
    Marinette: Go on, get lost!
  • Hollywood Tone-Deaf: Ivan is not a good singer.
  • Ignored Epiphany: When Stoneheart throws Chloé from the Eiffel Tower, she prays that she will be nicer if she survives, only to recant when Ladybug saves her before she can finish.
  • "King Kong" Climb: Stoneheart climbs the Eiffel Tower with Mylène and Chloé in his hands, while being surround by police helicopters.
  • Not What It Looks Like: Adrien tries to remove the gum Chloé and Sabrina put on Marinette's seat. Unfortunately for him, Marinette walks in on this and assumes that the reverse is happening; Chloé and Sabrina's obvious amusement only further convinces her that Adrien is in on the prank. Adrien tries to explain, but Marinette is having none of it, and he quickly gives up.
  • Orbital Shot: When the Stone Men swarm around Cat Noir, the camera rotates around the superhero to give a better sense of his dire situation.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Marinette boldly gives one to Chloé and has her and Sabrina sit where they should be sitting, much to the amusement of the rest of the class.
  • Retroactive Idiot Ball: The entire plot of "Lady Wifi" revolves around Alya thinking Chloé might be Ladybug. Having seen Ladybug rescue Chloé in this episode, however, she should have already known by then that this was impossible. Possibly justified by Alya never personally seeing Ladybug and Chloé in the same place; by the time she catches up to Stoneheart after being saved by Ladybug herself, the fight is already over.
  • Romantic Rain: It's raining at the moment when Marinette falls in love with Adrien. Thunder sound can be heard in the distance, and in French, the expression "love at first sight" is said "catch a thunderclap".
  • Serenade Your Lover: Going on Marinette's advice, Ivan tries to woo Mylène by writing a song and singing for her. Unfortunately, he does not realize heavy metal might not make the best love ballad.
  • She Is Not My Girlfriend: Plagg congratulates Adrien for getting a girlfriend on his first day of school after he gives his umbrella to Marinette. Adrien insists she's only a friend, though he's still happy with getting that much.
  • Shipper on Deck: Marinette for Ivan×Mylène, Master Fu for Marinette×Adrien.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Ladybug's way of defeating the giant head of Hawk Moth is done similarly to how Mack does his Battlizer finisher move in Power Rangers Operation Overdrive, which consists of destroying the Monster of the Week with repeated strikes that form the emblem of the Operation Overdrive Rangers, when in this case, Ladybug lashes out at Hawk Moth with her yo-yo several times that results in the capture of the Akumas before releasing them in a white wave of butterflies. Also the fact that there was a giant floating head too.
    • Stone Heart climbing up the Eiffel Tower with Mylène gives a familiar feeling to those who have seen King Kong.
  • Shut Up, Hannibal!: Ladybug gives one to Hawk Moth, reminding everyone that he's the villain of the story and that she and Cat Noir will do everything they can to stop him.
  • So Proud of You: Master Fu when he sees Marinette and Adrien's lives improve following their first times as Ladybug and Cat Noir.
  • Stunned Silence: How Cat Noir, Chloé, André, Roger, and most likely all of Paris, react to when Ladybug takes down Hawk Moth and captures all of his Akumas.
  • Superhero Paradox: Hawk Moth invokes this, in an attempt to get Ladybug to surrender by claiming her defiance against him is what led to innocents getting akumatized. Ladybug doesn't even humor it and turns it right back on him, pointing out that he's the bad guy, and that everything is his fault.
  • Synchronized Swarming: Hawk Moth reveals himself to all of Paris using a swarm of akuma shaped like his head. Ladybug makes quick work of the swarm, getting praise from everyone.
  • Take Up My Sword: Marinette tries to pass the Ladybug earrings onto Alya by hiding them in Alya's bag, but Alya forgets it in her rush to film the action, forcing Marinette to take them back when Alya gets in trouble.
  • Taking the Heat: Adrien doesn't out Chloé as the one responsible for putting gum on Marinette's seat since she's his only friend. Nino decides to fix that problem by becoming his friend, and encourages him to tell Marinette the truth.
  • There Was a Door: Stoneheart doesn't bother himself with doors. Nor walls, for that matter.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Marinette steps up as Ladybug for good, and learns to stand up for herself against Chloé.
  • True Love's Kiss: Ladybug uses her yo-yo to make Mylène give one to Ivan while he's Stoneheart. The shock causes him to lose his grip on her and the akuma. Mylène manages to hang on to his finger while Cat grabs the akuma.
  • Unhand Them, Villain!: Mayor Bourgeois demands that Stoneheart release his daughter. Stoneheart, currently on the Eiffel Tower, complies by pitching Chloé in his general direction. Ladybug saves her before she hits the ground.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Marinette manages to talk Ivan down after Chloé mocks him for becoming a monster, but her advice on how to approach Mylène ultimately leads to him becoming akumatized again.
  • World-Healing Wave: The first time Ladybug and Cat Noir sees it. Ladybug can't help but yell out "This is miraculous!"
  • You Are Better Than You Think You Are: When Ladybug doubts her ability to be a hero, Cat Noir assures her that she just proved she is by saving Chloé, and that they'll prove it to the rest of Paris together.
  • You Have Failed Me: Gabriel Agreste to Nathalie and the Gorilla for letting Adrien escape to go to school.
