This volume contains the following tropes:

  • Darkest Hour: By the time Shido actually defeats Westcott, Mio has killed all the Spirits to reclaim their Sephira Crystals. Tohka Came Back Strong and managed to actually put up a fight, only to be completely eradicated by Mio's final Angel Ain. Just when all hope seems lost, Kurumi's clone arrives to give one last feeble attempt at resistance while covertly reminding Shido that he still has her Sixth Bullet Vav so he can fix this mess.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: Just as when things look hopeless, Shido realizes from clone Kurumi's actions that Vav still remains sealed within himself, so he should be able to use the bullet to travel back in time.
  • Despair Event Horizon: Shido nearly crosses it when he figures out Mio had killed all of the Spirits. It takes Tohka reappearing from within Mio to break him out of it.
  • Deader than Dead: Played with. Anything hit by Mio's Ain is completely erased from this world. However, Tohka ends up being erased but restored due to Shido traveling back in time.
  • Hopeless Boss Fight: The Spirits never stood a chance against Mio. Even when Tohka Came Back Strong, she ultimately just gets erased by Ain. When Shido manages to perform Mental Time Travel, he realizes that treating Mio as an enemy will get him nowhere and he should instead use Ratatoskr’s tried and true method of handling Spirits: he asks her Older Alter Ego Reine out on a date.
  • The Law of Diminishing Defensive Effort: Mio can stop attacks before they even touch her, but when Tohka Came Back Strong and fired a Sword Beam at her, she realizes she actually has to dodge, and gets her Astral Dress slightly cut.
  • Morality Pet: Fragmentary Chapter 2 details Mio's past friendship with Mana. Even now, Mio still cares about Mana, being the only one she chooses to go out of her way to spare during her massacre.
  • Pyrrhic Victory: Ratatoskr technically won the war against DEM by defeating Ellen and Westcott. However, Woodman defeated the former using a CR-unit that burns away the remainder of his life and dies shortly afterward, and Shido doesn't even have time to celebrate his victory over Westcott before Mio retrieves the last Sephira Crystals from Westcott, Miku and Natsumi, completing her slaughter of Shido’s harem (she also destroyed the Fraxinus EX and presumably killed the entire crew).
  • Reality Warper: The effect of Mio's second angel, Ain Soph.
  • Superpower Lottery: Being the source of the other Spirits powers, it would be better to say that Mio is the lottery itself. Compared to the other Spirits, she has three Angels with each being a Game-Breaker in its own right.
  • Yandere: Mio is wiling to do anything for Shinji's sake. This includes even erasing Shidou's memories so that 'Shin' will not feel guilty.
  • Was It All a Lie?: Kotori asks Mio about this regarding as the time they spent together while she was Reine. Mio's replies back that it wasn't a lie, but she would sacrifice even a close friend to get Shinji back.
