Recap / Milo Murphy's Law S1E27 "Perchance to Sleepwalk"

Go To

The kids go on a camping trip, which gets exciting due to Milo sleepwalking. Meanwhile, Dakota and Cavendish don't know what to do with their mission to save the pistachios, and the potential of a pistachion Bad Future.

Tropes for this episode include:

  • Amusing Injuries: Zack and Melissa accrue a great number of them chasing after and protecting Milo. By the end of it Melissa's curlers are in tatters.
  • And Then What?: Cavendish and Dakota aren't sure about what to do now that they know their mission can't ever succeed.
  • Badly Battered Babysitter: Not so much babysitters, but Zack and Melissa go through a lot trying to get a sleepwalking Milo back to camp, while Milo doesn't endure even a scratch.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Inverted; by getting caught in the act of destroying pistachio trees, Cavendish and Dakota finally get another job: cleaning outhouses in the Renaissance. Notably, Cavendish doesn't seem broken up about the pistachios going to Brick and Savannah.
  • Blatant Lies: When Brick and Savannah catch Dakota and Cavendish destroying the trees they're supposed to protect, there's only one tree left and they say they had to destroy the other trees to protect it.
  • Call a Rabbit a "Smeerp": The "red beak crows" are actually red-billed choughs, as evidenced by Cavendish's device identifying them as Pyrrhocorax pyrrhocorax, the scientific name of the species.
  • Cassandra Truth: The head of the time travel agency still doesn't believe Dakota and Cavendish about the pistachion Bad Future because he doesn't remember it, due to Timey-Wimey Ball.
  • Dramatic Irony:
    • Milo wakes up after the rough night Zack and Melissa had, and thanks them for not letting him wander too far. Melissa in response tosses her sleeping bag at him.
    Milo: What'd I say?
    • Dakota and Cavendish decide to take a day off since they still fear the Bad Future they prevented and they end up accidentally distracting the red beak crows from destroying the pistachio trees.
  • Dude, Where's My Respect?: Dakota takes it very personally when their boss still treats him and Cavendish like dirt even after they saved him and the rest of the future. Justified since the Timey-Wimey Ball prevents Block from remembering what they did.
  • Funny Background Event: While the "Taking a Stroll" song is still going, Milo, Zack, and Melissa pass by the band playing it. Zack stays behind to dance along when Melissa drags him away to follow and get Milo back.
  • Here We Go Again!: Brick and Savannah are put in charge of saving the pistachio plant. With Milo Murphy still in the nearby area.
  • Hero of Another Story: By the time Brick and Savannah appear in this episode, they had just saved Texas.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Brick and Savannah catch Dakota and Cavendish destroying the pistachio trees they're supposed to protect and tell their boss on them. Said boss reacts by reassigning Dakota and Cavendish to Renaissance outhouse cleaning and Brick and Savannah to the pistachio protecting job. They hate it.
  • Morton's Fork: Lampshaded by Dakota and Cavendish. If they save the pistachio plant, the Bad Future with the pistachions will happen and their boss won't remember having assigned it to them. If they refuse to do the mission, their boss won't believe them and make them save the pistachio.
  • Never Wake Up a Sleepwalker: Discussed as a point of contention between Zack and Melissa. Though it doesn't help that most of the antics they suffer are as a result of Milo not stopping and giving them a chance to wake him up.
  • Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!: Cavendish decides that the world is more important than his job, and to destroy as many pistachio trees as he can find.
  • Springtime for Hitler: Dakota and Cavendish decide to ignore the flock of red-beaked crows they're supposed to ward off in order to prevent another possible Pistachion invasion. Somehow, they instead manage to distract the flock with a Limburger sandwich and complete their mission.
  • Tempting Fate: After Brick and Savannah are forced to take Dakota and Cavendish's places as pistachio protectors, Brick says the day couldn't become worse and then notices the bear.
