Inspired by the Ranger Teens' Broom-ball competition with Stone Canyon, Lord Zedd creates the Stag Beetle monster from the rival team's poster. The Stag Beetle briefly absorbs some of Tommy's waning Green Ranger powers, as expected.

- Big Creepy-Crawlies: Kim isn't thrilled at having to fight yet another giant bug.
- Foreshadowing: Stone Canyon is first mentioned here as the city that the rival Broom-ball team comes from.
- Misplaced Retribution: Zedd's vendetta against Tommy is revealed to be because Rita was the one who made him the Green Ranger, and he wants to erase every trace of her failures.
- Pyrrhic Victory: Zedd's monster was defeated, but it had drained much of Tommy's remaining powers beforehand.
- Xanatos Gambit: Unlike after most defeats, Lord Zedd isn't all that bothered, much to Goldar's confusion, as the Stag Beetle was destroyed. Zedd then explains to Goldar that the beetle drained much of the Green Ranger's powers. All it would take is three more monsters to drain what little remained of the Green Ranger's powers.
