Go To

With Lord Zedd taking an energy-recharging nap, the Ranger teens are able to take a class vacation to Australia. But this also provides a perfect opportunity for Rita Repulsa to return! Thanks to a youthful makeover and Finster's love potion, Zedd awakens overwhelmed by a desire to make her his queen! Meanwhile, Alpha 5 is corrupted by Finster's virus, shutting up Zordon and sending the Rangers into a trap!

Tropes

  • The Artifact: Finster bemoans how Lord Zedd's arrival caused him to go from the villains' monster-maker to someone considered old and in the way.
  • The Bus Came Back:
    • Rita Repulsa returns.
    • After disappearing for a majority of "The Mutiny", and making a surprise cameo in "Two for One", Finster returns full force to the show, though he wouldn't get back to making monsters until next season.
  • Continuity Nod: Kimberly mentions her uncle Steve from "Foul Play in the Sky".
  • Contrived Coincidence: The Rangers comment on how fortunate they're going on the class vacation the same time as Lord Zedd's nap. Zedd complains how he could have taken over Angel Grove while the Rangers are away, but he needs to recharge.
  • Evil Takes a Nap: This episode starts off with Lord Zedd entering his Centennial Energy Recharge in which he undergoes a nap while being recharged with evil energy. However Rita Repulsa returns from the exile Zedd placed her in at the beginning of the season while he's asleep and replaces the evil energy with a Love Potion to force Zedd to fall in love with her as revenge.
  • Evolving Credits: Not in terms of the intro itself, but "John Bosch" and "Steven Cardenas" are properly re-credited as Johnny Yong Bosch and Steve Cardenas.
  • From Bad to Worse: The Rangers are surrounded in the theater by monsters. Then they find they can't teleport away or summon their weapons.
  • Glory Days: While puttering around his lab, Finster yearns for the good old days of working for Rita and being the villains' monster maker extraordinaire.
  • Haunted House: Where the Rangers were lured into a trap. Actually an abandoned theater, but played straight as a lightning storm appeared outside and Rita cast a spell around it to keep them from teleporting away or using their Power Weapons.
  • Lampshade Hanging: "How come none of this stupid discount equipment ever works?"
  • Laughably Evil: Alpha 5, after being turned evil.
  • Love Potion: Rita orders Finster to make one for her to use on Lord Zedd.
  • My Significance Sense Is Tingling: While in Australia, the Rangers sense something strange when Rita's dumpster crash-landed on the moon.
  • Oh, Crap!: The Rangers, when they were unable to use their weapons or teleport out of the theater.
  • Pet the Dog: After Finster restores her to her normal size, Rita actually hugs him.
  • Pun:
Eye Guy: How nice to see you again.
  • Real Life Writes the Plot: The Rangers are on a field trip to Australia, and meanwhile, the filming of the movie ran long and they needed to film more scenes for the show before the actors could get back to California.
  • Stock Footage: First time since "The Mutiny, Part 3" to feature Zyuranger footage (besides the Rangers calling their Thunderzords and their Power Blaster). Also the last time we see Machiko Soga's face in those footage, since Rita was given a facial makeover.
  • Suddenly Voiced: Dramole
  • To Be Continued: Surrounded by old monsters, the Rangers find themselves unable to teleport out or summon their weapons.
  • Undying Loyalty: Unlike Goldar, Squatt, and Baboo, Finster never once betrayed Rita for Zedd and outright states he misses her. He immediately restores her to her original size and helps in her marriage plan without question.
  • Vocal Dissonance: Even after the moon mud is applied, Rita keeps her iconic shrill.
