Recap / Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers S2E15 Orchestral Maneuvers in the Park

Go To

There's going to be a jazz concert at the Youth Center! Curtis wants to play his and Zack's uncle's famous trumpet. It ends up getting stolen and turned into the Trumpet Top monster. His musical blasts cause the Power Rangers to hallucinate, making them think they're fighting monsters they've already defeated (including Stag Beetle, Grumble Bee, Praying Mantis, Soccadillo, Slippery Shark, Fighting Flea, and more).

Tropes

  • Beat: Bulk and Skull's reaction to the Rangers fighting air.
  • Bowdlerize: The drunken-fist user Tofu Hermit from Dairanger became the musical illusionist Trumpet Top in MMPR.
  • Break Out the Museum Piece: Since Curtis’ trumpet is still on the moving van between St. Louis and Angel Grove, Zack lets him use the famous trumpet of their late Uncle Ed.
  • Cassandra Truth: Variation; upon returning the trumpet to Curtis, Jason fibs that a kid found it in the hallway after a Power Ranger left it there. Curtis doesn't believe it but is happy that his uncle's heirloom is back.
  • Exclusive Enemy Equipment: Trumpet Top briefly steals the Thunder Saber from the Thunder Megazord and gets a hit in, but the saber apparently has a self defense mode, causing it to electrocute Trumpet Top and return to the Rangers.
  • Pun: Bulk and Skull accidentally drop the plaster mold of the Rangers' footprints, shattering it completely. They pathetically try to put it back together, but Zach tells them it's "nothing to go to pieces over".
  • Through the Eyes of Madness: Trumpet Top causes the rangers to hallucinate past monsters and we (the audience) get to see the rangers "fighting" the various illusions until Alpha shows us the truth through the Viewing Globe. In addition, the beach the rangers "fight" on appears sweeping and outstretched through their eyes but when Bulk and Skull come across them, the area is shown to be quite small.
