Go To

Kimberly suffers through a very unlucky day, one made worse when Samurai Fan Man captures her.

Tropes

  • Behemoth Battle: Dinozords vs. Samurai Fanman and Goldar.
  • Blow You Away: The Samurai Fanman can create hurricane-force winds with his fan.
  • Determinator: Even after Kimberly is freed, Goldar and the Fanman keep putting up a good fight. It eventually takes the Ultrazord to defeat them.
  • From Bad to Worse: Kimberly's very bad day gets worse as the day goes on, all started when she had a nightmare of Rita as her stepmother. It was also "perfect timing" for Rita to set her plan in motion. Kimberly even says this as the Samurai Fan Man captures her.
  • Godzilla Threshold: Zordon recommends they use their zords while the Samurai Fan Man is still small to crush him, breaking his own rule about never escalating a battle unless Rita forces you to. This decision was after seeing how poorly the battle went.
  • I Have to Go Iron My Dog: Kimberly breaks a mirror and, as part of the bad luck she believes that comes as a result from that, gets her hair wet from rain while going to school. Upon seeing her hair, Skull comments that she wasn't lying when she said she needed to wash it and canceled their date.
Kimberly: I never made a date with you, goon!
Skull: (fake crying) My feelings are hurt.
Tommy: Don't you banana-brains ever quit?
Bulk: Oh, I just washed my hair, and I can't do a thing with it!
  • Make My Monster Grow: Done by Rita to both Samurai Fanman and Goldar.
  • Monster of the Week: Samurai Fan Man.
  • Paranoia Fuel: Taken to new heights in this episode, as not only is Rita implicitly watching the Rangers like a hawk, but the first sign things are going to go even worse for Kimberly is when Squatt is seen eavesdropping outside her bedroom window.
  • Samurai: The fanman is a Monster Knight flavor of samurai.
  • Sting: The audience knows just how bad things are getting for Kimberley in the opening scene when she does something klutzy and the SFX reacts with the distinctive "BONK!" sound usually reserved for Bulk and Skull!
  • Weather Dissonance: Upon waking up, Kimberly looks out her window to a nice sunny day with chirping birds. But as she heads to her closet, a sudden storm appears and lightning flashes from her other window. Another sign of her bad day.
    Kimberly: Weird.
