Tropes

  • A Day in the Limelight: Scorpina is a constant threat in this episode as she hunts down the Mirror of Destruction. She even gets to create her own monster, a creature made of cobbled together boulders known as the Rockstar.
  • Badass Fingersnap: Scorpina snaps her fingers to bring the Rockstar to life.
  • Behemoth Battle: Dino Megazord vs. Scorpina and Goldar.
  • Brains and Brawn: The episode's aesop of which Jason is teaching to his cousin: Always brains before brawn.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: As Scorpina and Goldar fight the Megazord, Scorpina opens the Mirror of Destruction (which destroys anyone who looks into it) to get the Rangers to look at their reflection. The Megazord manages to maneuver Goldar into looking into the Mirror, but before its power can take hold, Scorpina cries "Don't look!" and tosses the Mirror aside.
  • Flash Back: We see a knight who had discovered the Mirror 10,000 years ago open its shielding and peer inside. It doesn't go so well.
  • I Ate WHAT?!: Trini shares a French recipe she learned with the other Rangers. At first, they like it, until Trini mentions its called Torte Escargot, to which Billy mentions that the latter word is French for "Snails".
  • MacGuffin / Artifact of Doom: The Mirror of Destruction.
  • Magic Mirror / Literally Shattered Lives: The Mirror of Destruction, which completely destroys any sentient being who gazes into it. Rockstar and a Putty fall victim to its destructive power.
  • Make My Monster Grow: Done by Rita to Scorpina and Goldar.
  • Mirrors Reflect Everything: Averted. The Mirror of Destruction fails to deflect the lightning finisher from the Megazord's Power Sword and explodes like any other Monster of the Week.
  • Monster of the Week: Rockstar.
  • Mythology Gag: Jeremy gets rid of the Mirror of Destruction, on the count that it's "too hot to handle." This line was used in a trio of ads promoting the early toyline of the series.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Jeremy throwing away the Mirror causes it to fly over to where the Rangers are battling Scorpina, who wastes no time claiming it. To be fair, Billy didn't exactly bother to explain what the Mirror in question really was to the younger boy.
  • Rock Monster: Monster of the Week Rockstar.
  • Survival Mantra: Jeremy's is "brains before brawn" while he's fleeing from the Putty Patrol.
