Go To

"Outta Time" is the 8th episode of Season 5 of the new Mickey Mouse (2013) series created by Paul Rudish for the Disney Channel and Disney.com. It is the 86th in the series.

When Goofy mistakes one of Professor Von Drake's time machines for the bathroom, Mickey and Donald must venture to the past to stop him from contaminating the timestream.

Tropes:

  • All Cavemen Were Neanderthals: The prehistoric Goofy-cavemen are all bulky, hairy, knuckle-dragging brutes.
  • Awe-Inspiring Dinosaur Shot: Mickey reacts in awe at the Goofy-headed dinosaurs when he and Donald first arrive in the prehistoric age. He thinks that if they all look like Goofy, they must be friendly... until a Goofy-headed T. rex starts chasing them.
  • Brick Joke: The gag of Donald's butt constantly falling off comes full circle, when in the end it's revealed that everyone accidentally left it in the past. Cue everyone's heads morphing into Donald's butt...
    • Relatively, after Donald gets his butt sliced and glued back on, Mickey suggests that duct tape would have been better to use. Mickey also treats that suggestion as a joke by pronouncing it as "Duck Tape", but both Donald and Von Drake are not impressed by this. In the end, as everyone's heads morph into Donald's butt, Mickey stated that they should've used duct tape instead.
  • Bring My Brown Pants: Parodied; Donald's butt falls off when a Goofy-saur roars at him and Mickey.
  • Continuity Nod: While going through the Hall of Science, Donald bemoans "Every time we come here, something bad happens to me."
  • Downer Ending: Despite stopping Goofy from needing to go to the bathroom and thus, accidentally travel to the past, the celebration is cut short when Mickey and friends realize they left Donald's butt in the past by mistake because Von Drake's superglue just wore off, which replaces everyone's head with his butt. Even Mickey is not happy by this by saying that they should've used duct tape.
  • Dramatic Thunder: When Goofy first appears as the Neanderthal King.
  • Extra-Long Episode: This episode is twice the length of an average short.
  • Gigantic Gulp: Goofy is drinking from a large soda cup as they tour Von Drake's hall of inventions, which is why he has to go to the bathroom later.
  • Hollywood Prehistory: The bulk of the short takes place in a prehistoric world full of dinosaurs, cavemen and volcanoes.
  • Hope Spot: Mickey, Donald, and Goofy travel back one minute before Goofy finishes his soda so he doesn't need to go to the bathroom. Problem solved, right? That is, until the trio realize they left Donald's butt in the past...
  • It's All My Fault: Mickey makes it his mission to save Goofy because he sent him over to the time machine in the first place, thinking it was a bathroom. However, Donald pointed out in the end that Goofy himself wouldn't have trouble going to the bathroom and end up in the time machine by accident if he hadn't drink all of his soda in the first place.
  • Lame Pun Reaction: Donald and the Professor react accordingly when Mickey suggests they hold Donald's severed butt in place with "duck tape", even Mickey himself realized this after seeing their reactions.
  • Mundane Solution: When Mickey and Donald find that Goofy is now the king to a band of Goofy-Neanderthals, Mickey suggests they get him back with "some kind of overly-elaborate plan" that involves making a catapult out of jungle plants. But Donald, wanting to go home, simply snatches Goofy with the tribe in pursuit.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • In the first shot of the Goofy dinosaurs, one of the sounds heard amongst their calling is the original "Goofy holler".
    • Everyone turning into Goofy and the tribe of cavemen all looking like him especially alludes to Goofy's classic shorts where all the characters were Goofy lookalikes.
  • Not Now, Kiddo: Mickey is too invested in seeing one of Von Drake's inventions when Goofy asks him where the bathroom is and tells him to go "over there". Unfortunately, he pointed to a time machine.
  • Oh, Crap!: Donald's reaction to leaving his butt behind in the past, causing everyone's heads to become duck butts.
  • Potty Emergency: Goofy has to go to the bathroom in the middle of Von Drake's demonstration, so he goes to what he thinks is a bathroom, but is actually a time machine.
  • Red Sky, Take Warning: The sky is red when Goofy appears as the Neanderthals' king.
  • Running Gag: Donald's butt keeps falling off after it gets sliced off by Von Drake's sandwich slicer.
  • Set Right What Once Went Wrong: Mickey and Donald go back in time to bring Goofy back from prehistory, and then go to the minute before he entered the time machine to he won't finish his soda and have to go to the bathroom.
  • Wrong Genre Savvy: Mickey assumes that the Goofy-saurs must be friendly because they look like Goofy. They're not.
  • Your Princess Is in Another Castle!: Mickey notes that finding Goofy doesn't actually fix the contaminated timeline, so he decides to stop Goofy from finishing his soda.
