"Year of the Dog" is the 14th episode of Season 4 of the new Mickey Mouse (2013) series created by Paul Rudish for the Disney Channel and Disney.com. It's the 72nd in the series.
Mickey's Lunar New Year feast is jeopardised when a mysterious creature, who is actually Pluto, steals the main course.
Tropes:
- Big Eater: Pluto has an enormous appetite and ends up devouring all the food intended for Mickey's guests.
- The Cameo: Oswald the Lucky Rabbit appears on a billboard in the city, advertising "Oswald the Lucky Soda".
- Easily Forgiven: Pluto eats most of the food meant for Mickey's guests, leaving them with only a bowl of dumpling soup between them. He gets invited to the feast anyway.
- From Stray to Pet: Pluto starts the cartoon as a stray dog. At the end, Mickey adopts him.
- Mythology Gag:
- While setting the table, Mickey is whistling "Steamboat Bill", the tune from Steamboat Willie.
- Pluto's role as a stray is also a possible reference to his earliest appearances such as his debut cartoon The Chain Gang, as he originally didn't start off as Mickey's pet dog.
