Go To

"The Birthday Song" is the 10th episode of Season 4 of the new Mickey Mouse (2013) series created by Paul Rudish for the Disney Channel and Disney.com. It's the 68th in the series and was made to coincide with Mickey Mouse's 89th anniversary (which fell two days later).

Minnie has made a special song for Mickey on the latter's birthday, but the notes on her song run off, forcing her to catch them all before Mickey finds out.

Tropes:

  • Birthday Episode: This short is about Mickey's birthday.
  • The Cameo: Among the guests at Mickey's party are Horace Horsecollar, Clarabelle Cow, Clara Cluck, Pete, Humphrey the Bear, Gus Goose, Chip 'n' Dale and Huey, Dewey & Louie. The back of Mary Poppins can also be seen.
  • Circling Birdies: When Minnie whacks Pluto to get at the notes that were on him, two of the notes circle above his head.
  • Losing Your Head: Poor Goofy ends up having his head fall off because his neck was one of the notes missing from Minnie's sheet music.
  • Never Trust a Title: Despite the title card having Mickey's name in it, the entire short is more or less centered around Minnie. Previous shorts with her in the starring role had her name in the title cards. The most likely reason that isn't the case here was to avoid confusion as to why Disney would release a Minnie Mouse short on Mickey's Birthday.note
  • Shout-Out: The title card is modelled after the "A Walt Disney Presentation" title card with the red background and curling musical staves in the background.
