"Black and White" is the sixth season 3 short of the new Mickey Mouse (2013) series created by Paul Rudish for the Disney Channel and Disney.com. It's the 43nd to air on the Disney Channel and put up on Disney.com.
When Mickey is literally scared white, he attempts to save face in front of Minnie and get back the black of his colour scheme.
Tropes:
- Art Shift: Mickey and his coat tumble through a couple of movies, which has human characters drawn in a more realistic style.
- Color Failure: Taking to an extra mile where it makes the focal point of the episode, as Mickey is scared out of his color, which manifests as an entity which he must chase back
- Creator Cameo: It's very hard to see, but the first star of the movie in the short, Attack of the Hee Bee Gee Bees, is "Raul Prudish", obviously a pun on "Paul Rudish".
- Disney Acid Sequence: The monochrome chase with Mickey's black coat halfway through the cartoon.
- Dissonant Serenity: Mickey's shivering with every second of the movie, but Minnie's just munching away on popcorn.
- Here We Go Again!: Mickey gets his colors back, but his reentry into the theater scares everyone else in it, including Minnie, completely white.
- Idea Bulb: Mickey uses one to find his black coat in a darkened alley.
- Pun: As soon as the chase begins, Mickey yells out, "Hey, get black here!"
- Shout-Out:
- Ripping off the police uniform to find something is a gag that Tex Avery was very good at in "Ventriloquist Cat".
- Mickey struggling with his color at the end resembles another such scene with the famous Marvel character Venom, specifically, the church scene in Spider-Man 3.
- Tearing Through the Movie Screen: Mickey has a fight with the physical manifestation of his fears and cowardice in a movie theater. The fight ends with the two bursting through the screen of a horror movie, scaring everyone in the audience.
