Recap / Mickey Mouse S3 E2 "One Man Band"

Go To

"One Man Band" is the second season 3 short of the new Mickey Mouse (2013) series created by Paul Rudish for the Disney Channel and Disney.com. It's the 39th to air on the Disney Channel and put up on Disney.com.

Mickey Mouse tries to perform as a one-man band in England, but runs afoul of everyone whenever he tries to perform somewhere and seemingly angers the then Queen of England.

Not to be confused with an entirely unrelated Pixar short, One-Man Band.

Tropes:

  • British Teeth: A lot of the background characters have this kind of teeth.
  • Chase Scene: Half portion of this short has Mickey trying to evade the British guards.
  • Clown-Car Base: When the British guards start to chase after Mickey, a whole bunch of them manage to march out of a structure that's too narrow for more than one person to fit in.
  • Imagine Spot: When the Queen orders the guards to get him, Mickey imagines being put on a rack and stretched until his body (and his instruments) snaps in half.
  • Mid-Battle Tea Break: When Big Ben rings during the royal guards' chase of "One-Man Band" Mickey, the chase stops dead in its tracks for everyone to have a quick sip of tea.
  • Poor Communication Kills: The Queen only wanted Mickey Mouse to be brought to her because she wanted to knight him, but her stern demeanor and ordering her guards to get Mickey causes him to assume that the Queen wants to execute him.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Mickey's outfit is based on Bert from Mary Poppins, and the song he plays is based on "Step In Time".
    • Corgis have been the favourite dog breed of the British royal family for over seventy years. Naturally, in this cartoon the Queen is a Corgi.
    • Another thing to note about the Queen's appearance is that she wears an outfit reminiscent of the regalia her real life counterpart wears at State Openings of Parliament.
