"The Boiler Room" is the ninth season 2 short of the new Mickey Mouse (2013) series created by Paul Rudish for the Disney Channel and Disney.com. It's the 27th to air on the Disney Channel and put up on Disney.com.
Amidst fears of a monster in the boiler room in Minnie's apartment building, Mickey venture in there to fix the boiler's water heater.
Tropes:
- 2D Visuals, 3D Effects: While Mickey is running away from the boiler, one scene has the background (the boiler's pipes) animated in CGI.
- Animate Inanimate Object: The monster in the boiler room is the boiler itself, which is suffering from a pipe clog. Minnie's toilet turns out to be just as monstrous.
- Chekhov's Gun: The random "tools" Mickey took with him to make himself look brave in front of the residents (a sombrero, a fishing pole, and an old man's dentures) actually do help save the day.
- Creator Cameo: As in "Third Wheel", Paul Rudish plays another part in this short, as evidenced by his name appearing in the credits.
- Dem Bones:
- Mickey points to a skeleton, thinking that he's dead. It turns out that he's alive, just dehydrated.
- Later, when Mickey sees the monster, which is the boiler itself, Mickey gets so scared that his skeleton leaves his skin.
- Here We Go Again!: After Mickey fixes the boiler, Minnie asks him to fix her toilet.
- Hollywood Heart Attack: After Mickey's heart starts beating loudly, Mickey tells it to knock it off. It stops beating and Mickey goes into cardiac arrest. It beats again after Mickey tells it he changed his mind.
- Rampage from a Nail: The boiler initially attacks Mickey due to a pipe being blocked by a wrench. Once the wrench is removed, the boiler immediately stops being hostile
- I'm Standing Right Here: One of the residents of the building says he heard that the monster in the boiler room ate Miss Johnson, while another says he heard that the monster is Miss Johnson. Miss Johnson yells, "I heard that!" among the crowd.
- Screams Like a Little Girl: Mickey, when he sees the monster boiler.
- Wingding Eyes: When Mickey first sees the boiler, his eyes turn into little Mickeys who then shut his eyes like window shutters. Also, as Mickey runs runs away from the boiler, the word "PANIC" can be seen in his eyes.
