Recap / Mickey Mouse S2 E4 "O Futebol Clássico"

Go To

"O Futebol Clássico" is the fourth season 2 short of the new Mickey Mouse (2013) series created by Paul Rudish for the Disney Channel and Disney.com. It's the 22nd to both air on the Disney Channel and put up on Disney.com.

Mickey attends the "Futebol Clássico" final in Brazil, but struggles to find the perfect view for the game.

Like in "Croissant de Triomphe", "Tokyo Go" and "'O Sole Minnie", nobody speaks English in this short. Instead, the characters speak Portuguese.

Tropes:

  • Balloonacy: Mickey ties balloons to a chair so he can see the game.
  • Balloon-Bursting Bird: ...until the birds come along.
  • Be the Ball: Mickey ends up on the field and gets kicked around by the players.
  • The Cameo: Jose Carioca appears throughout the episode as the commentator of the Futebol Classico game.
  • Chekhov's Gag: The pig's Funny Afro. (See below)
  • Hammerspace Hair: The pig with the big novelty afro has an even bigger Funny Afro inside it.
  • Large-Ham Announcer: When Brazil scores at the end, Jose Carioca does his best Andres Cantor impression.
  • Not the Fall That Kills You…: Mickey is saved from plummeting out of the sky by landing in the pig's Funny Afro from earlier.
  • Shout-Out:
    • A possible one to Bedknobs and Broomsticks; as in that film, players and spectators alike are all animals. More specifically, one team consists of lions that look remarkably similar to King Leonidas, the soccer-loving lion from said movie.
    • This short was likewise one toward the 2014 FIFA World Cup which was going on at the time of its airing. On Disney property ESPN in the U.S., no less.
  • The Worst Seat in the House: Mickey initially has a great seat, but then the pig with the big hair blocks his view. Ironically he finds an even better seat on the pig's afro after going through all the trouble to find a better one.
