Recap / Metalocalypse S 3 E 2 Tributeklok

Go To

Dethklok, feeling out of touch with their fans, get back to their underground roots by being their own tribute band.

  • Bookends: The episode begins and ends with Murderface saying Dethklok doesn't owe anybody anything, pulling his pants down and telling everyone to "suck [his] millionaire cock."
  • Cover Version: The Dethklok tribute band ban has been lifted, allowing a wide variety of tribute bands to come out. Smoothklok is a jazz version of the band. Ladyklok, an all-female version of the group, Dethkrok, a Korean version. Barberklok and Christklok are shown before finally coming up on Thunderhorse.
  • Death of a Child: Children are killed at the ice rink after a skater slices Murderface's bass line, electrocuting the spilled pasta.
  • Exhausted Eye Bags: The band go for days with little sleep along with little food.
  • Facial Horror: A fan who insults Dethklok on live TV refuses to sign a waiver taking back what he said about them. He's given facial reconstructive surgery in the loosest terms and dumped on the side of the road.
  • Fan-Work Ban: In-Universe there was a longtime ban on tribute bands that Charles lifts in hopes that it gets Dethklok back into the public's good graces.
  • Food Slap: A fan throws his drink at Nathan at the Pentuplemint Gum commercial party, calling Dethklok sellouts. The same fan appears backstage for Thunderhorse's show and throws his drink in Nathan's face, saying Dethklok would never do anything charitable like health benefit concerts.
  • Forgets to Eat: The band doesn't know when to even eat unless their servants ring a bell telling them.
  • Grievous Bottley Harm: When Murderface goes onstage to explain that Thunderhorse won't be performing, a fan throws a beer bottle at him, making him get pissed off and insult the audience.
  • Growling Gut: The guys go long without food that their stomachs audibly growl.
  • Lives in a Van: It's heavily implied in one cutaway gag that the band is living in a van they rented for the purposes of trying to live a more humble existence.
  • Odd Name Out: While most of the original Thudnerhorse has knockoff names of the original Dethklok members such as Norman Blowup and Pockles the Drummer, they didn't change Skwisgaar's due to how it's kind of hard to make his name more ridiculous than it already is
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: The only difference between Dethklok and Thunderhorse is that Toki and Skwisgaar change band positions and even dress like each other (although in fairness it's implied that they also sound different as a result ,but still how did no one noticed the other three?)
  • Slumming It: The band does a misguided attempt at getting back to their roots
