Recap / Mechamato S1 E1 "Out of Cone-trol!"

Go To

At a quiet street at night, a horde of cone-like creatures crawl out of a manhole. One of them lays out a blueprint of a swimming pool. That morning, Amato chases a blue chicken who's stolen his nametag. He wakes up MechaBot and has him mechanize with his bike to get to school. On his way, he receives free curry puffs from Mrs. Bibah, and Mr. Gobi thanks Amato for helping him clean up his store the previous day. MechaBot asks why they couldn't get paid for helping people, and Amato offers him a curry puff as payment, which the robot finds himself thoroughly enjoying.

They take another route upon getting blocked by a traffic jam, leading the Mechabike to ride up a wall and into the river, where Pian passes by on his yacht. Amato throws his bag to Pian and tells him to inform the teacher that he'll be late, and rushes to find the source of where the Mechanizer just detected bad robots. They return to a congested road, and an angry driver kicks a traffic cone near the swimming pool that caused him to swerve and crash. The cone turns itself over to reveal a moustached face, and Amato and MechaBot find the driver cowering in his car from the raging cone robot.

MechaBot identifies the robot to be a Cone Koncho. Amato tries being civil with the Koncho, only to barely miss a wrench thrown towards his face. The Koncho fires a missile rocket, which Amato deflects by mechanizing a trash can's lid into a shield. When more rockets are shot in all directions, Amato fires the Mechablaster at him. The angered robot calls for reinforcements, and they assemble themselves to form the Mega Koncho... except for one still chilling in the pool. To Amato's surprise, this one tells his brethren to wait for him in human language.

Amato and MechaBot are blasted into an alleyway after some Konchos land on them to blow themselves up. Amato just manages to mechanize himself into Mechamato before more blasts hit. As he dodges Mega Koncho's drill arm, Amato formulates a plan to mechanize with the office chair that he's rolling away in, with the base forming a propeller on his back, and the armrests forming shield-generating enhancements. MechaBot tells that the Konchos have one last warning, but they still resist. Mechamato finally corners them to fire all of his projectiles, disassembling them.

Amato has the Konchos make up for today's ruckus by removing the pool, cleaning up the damage they made, and ensuring this mess never happens again. Amato realises that he's late for school and attempts to sneak in, telling MechaBot to stay out because he's in the same category as a gadget, which aren't allowed on campus. However, Mr. Jamie finds him being tardy, and moreover, he doesn't believe Amato claiming himself to be Mechamato, and has him clean the whole school. That afternoon, Amato asks MechaBot to help instead of idling by the entrance, only for the robot to cite the rule and throw his finished drink box for him to clean up. Amato angrily wields his broom as he chases MechaBot.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Action Bomb: Some of the Cone Konchos are used as ammo by their boss, and they latch on to an enemy before blowing up. However, they only look severely dazed at most afterwards.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: A man is reasonably angry that a pool was built in the middle of the road and kicks a traffic cone, only for it to be the Cone Koncho boss who reacts by beating up his car as he cowers inside. When Amato tries to stop him, the Cone Koncho chucks a wrench at him and unleashes missiles all over the place.
  • Dude, Where's My Respect?: MechaBot isn't fond of mechanizing with the broom, saying it "reduces his standard" (in the Malay audio). Amato just smacks MechaBot on the head and says that he must obey him since he is his boss.
  • Eye Am Watching You: After the Cone Konchos are defeated and forced to clean up their mess, their boss expresses that they're still a threat by pointing at his own eyes and then pointing at Amato, glaring at him all the while.
  • Macross Missile Massacre: When Mechamato enables all of his weapons, several missile launchers and laser blasters protrude from his arms and back to release a barrage of attacks at an enemy.
  • Pun-Based Title: "Out of Cone-trol", a portmanteau of "out of control" and "cone" referring to the episode's threat being cone creatures.
