Col. Potter makes a mistake in surgery which triggers a crisis in confidence, and calls Sidney Freeman in to help. Meanwhile, it's pandemonium in the Swamp, as Hawkeye and BJ's frosty relationship with Charles boils over.

- AM/FM Characterization: When Sidney comes to talk to Potter after the latter's blowup at Hawkeye, Potter is listening to "Tumbling Tumbleweeds" by the Sons of the Pioneers.
- Cannot Spit It Out: When Sidney arrives, Potter has several conversations with him, but can't bring himself to say he's worried about losing his surgical skills. Sidney eventually calls him out on it.Sidney: You know, Sherm, you got a funny way about you. You keep bringing me in to talk, and then you don't say anything.
- O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Potter, normally a Reasonable Authority Figure, snaps on two separate occasions; once during a briefing on how to treat wounds caused by white phosphorus, and again when he finds out Hawkeye's authorized one of his patients for release.
