Recap / Marvel's Spider-Man S1 E3: "Osborn Academy"

Go To

Harry Osborn has been suspended from Horizon High, but that's okay! His rich father, Norman Osborn, has built an entirely new school for genii that Harry can go to. Harry, being a good friend, invites Peter Parker to the grand opening, though Peter is a bit late on account of having to fight the Jackal. At least Peter gets to meet Gwen Stacy while he's at it. While they're on tour, several people apply for the school. Norman is impressed by two, the duo of Clayton Cole and Herman Schultz, who show off the sonic technology they built, but tells them there's only one opening.

This causes the two to begin to fight, using their inventions to cause serious property damage. Spider-Man tries to stop them, but he's pre-empted by the Jackal stealing their gear. The two students do make up when Spider-Man saves their lives, so there's that, though only Herman gets accepted into Osborn Academy. While Harry unknowingly drives a wrench into his relationship with Peter by being suspicious of Spider-Man, he and Peter vow never to fight like that (...gee, tempting fate much?).

And meanwhile, back at the Stacy residence, Gwen greets her uncle Raymond Warren. She'd probably be a little less calm if she'd known that, just beforehand, the Jackal had snuck into her home and assumed his civilian identity...

This episode contains examples of:

  • Adaptational Heroism: Clayton and Herman are this 'verse's counterparts to Clash and the Shocker, respectively, but they're not criminals, just kids having a falling out.
  • Screw the Rules, I Have Money!: Son suspended from the school he wanted to get in? No problem for Norman Osborn; just build a new competing school for him.
