Recap / Martha Speaks S 1 E 71 Trumans Brother

Go To

Martha and Skits are watching Helen, Alice, T.D., and Truman play soccer, with the girls on one team and the boys on the other. The girls win, and as they all leave, Alice reveals that she is mad at Ronald because yesterday, he'd locked her out of the house as part of an ongoing prank war between the Boxwood siblings. T.D. and Truman then wish they had siblings (with T.D. specifically wanting a brother), but Alice says having siblings is bad. Then, Helen reveals that T.D. has a sister in college, but he forgot about her.

At the park, the girls play fetch with the dogs, but Truman is jealous of his friends because they all have siblings. Upon hearing that Martha and Skits aren't siblings but that Martha sometimes feels like he's her brother, Truman and T.D. then decide to become honorary brothers.

Later, the four kids eat at the cafe, and the boys are calling each other "bro". Alice says that having siblings is hard, and they make a bet: if the boys can stay together for a week without fighting, the girls will have to do the boys' chores, but if the boys either fight or quit, they'll have to do the girls' chores. The boys excitedly pack their stuff and imagine what having the other as a brother would be like, amusing the girls since the boys have such conflicting desires.

The girls spy on the boys as they watch the weather, surprised that they both enjoy it. Then, the girls watch the boys play golf and buy comics, and then they watch T.D. convince Truman to fake being sick after running out of time to do his homework before bed.

With only a day left, Helen is ready to call it quits, but Alice is still hopeful that the boys may fight. T.D., however, is happy that the two of them are living together and after school, he tries to teach Truman a caveman language while the girls spy on them. The girls are about ready to start doing the boys' chores, but then Martha hears Truman being ready to give up. Thus, the boys lose the bet and must do the girls' chores.

  • Feud Episode: Subverted. The girls bet the boys they can't live together without either quitting or fighting, and the losers must do the winners' chores. The girls think that they'll win instantly, but T.D. and Truman get along very well. Even when the boys end up losing the bet, it's not because of a fight, but rather because Truman gave up, and he gave up due to wanting to sleep on a proper mattress and do his homework rather than any ill feelings towards T.D.
  • Gross Gum Gag: T.D. keeps a ball of used gum, which repulses Helen.
  • Happy Dance: Helen and Alice dance for joy when they win a soccer match against their guy friends.
  • Incredibly Lame Fun: The boys enjoy watching the weather on TV, with T.D. even calling it "awesome".

  • Polka-Dot Disease: When Truman runs out of time to finish his homework before bed, T.D. convinces him to play hooky by painting green spots on his face.
  • Playing Sick: After running out of time before bed to do his homework, Truman (at T.D.'s suggestion) paints green spots on his face and pretends to be unwell so that he won't have to go to school. Truman's mother, however, finds out the ruse when paint comes off on her hand.
  • Plot Allergy: Alice imagines Truman being allergic to dust (though it's unrevealed if he is).
  • The Praftall: Truman is hit in the abdomen with a soccer ball, sending him falling on his rear.
  • Siblings Wanted: The premise is that T.D. and Truman try to be "brothers" after deciding they don't want to be only children anymore (even though T.D. does have a sister in college, but he forgot about her).
  • Smart People Play Chess Truman imagines playing chess with T.D.
  • Speak in Unison: When the boys call each other "bro", the girls say, confusedly and in unison, "Bro!?".
