Al gains a huge social standing in the neighborhood when Kelly starts dating local councilman and mayoral candidate Harry Ashland. After providing some favors to the family, Al proceeds to reap the benefits as far as it will take him.
Episode Tropes:
- An Aesop: Don't burn people on the way up who have the means to have you push you back down.
- Captain Oblivious: Kelly, naturally. Despite his wife calling her to stay away from her husband she's unaware he's married until after the scandal comes forward.
- Disproportionate Retribution: Jefferson and Marcy conscript Al to kill their paper boy for his unprofessional treatment of their newspaper.
- Jerkass Has a Point: While he went about it in the least dignified way possible, Al is right that a pothole big enough to rip the steering wheel off of his car should take higher priority since it's a safety hazard.
- Laser-Guided Karma:
- Harry Ashland cheats on his wife, the mother of his baby, for the barely legal Kelly. The scandal ruins his political career and presumably his marriage.
- Al excludes Bud from the benefits he's been reaping all episode, so he returns the favor by outing the affair to the newspaper for a stack of hundred dollar bills.
- Papa Wolf: Subverted. Al acts appropriately to a 41 year old man dating his barely legal daughter, until he realizes this man is an Alderman who could help the family financially.
