Art by Crash X Fusion: I'm so glad you're back...

The latest visitor to the Owl House makes things more complicated than the Owl Family's recent adventures already have.

Tropes that appear in this Chapter:

  • Affectionate Nickname:
    • Alador had two from two of his siblings: Addy used "Aladorable" while Alton used the downplayed example of "Al".
    • Before leaving to return home, Gwendolyn gives Luz one, "Little Bat".
    • Geist calls Edric and Emira "Eddie and Emmy" when he sees them.
  • And I Must Scream: Dolly is left transformed into a doll, begging the demon dog using her as a chew toy to stop.
  • Armor-Piercing Question: Edric gives Odalia three following Emira's "Reason You Suck" Speech;
Odalia: Everything I did was in your best interests-
Edric: Our best interests or yours? Do you really care about us or just about advancing your own social status? Shouldn't you be glad that Amity is no longer a Blight, since she wouldn't risk hurting your image anymore?
  • Asshole Victim: Dolly gets her final punishment in the form of her idol and partner double-crossing her and leaving her a literal Chew Toy.
  • Back from the Dead: Thanks to the Baron using necromancy, Camila is brought back to life. Sorta.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Each of Alador's siblings were very supportive of him, encouraging him to find his own path rather than follow the one their parents tried to put them on.
  • Big Damn Reunion: Camila returns and gets to have a proper reunion with her little girl, as well as meet the rest of her family again.
  • Broken Pedestal:
    • Now that the rest of the Blights know about Odalia's role in Eda's curse they become disgusted with her, the twins going so far as to running away to stay with their Uncle Geist for the time being.
    • Having experienced how dangerous Bill is herself, Mabel realizes just how secretive Dipper's been to her, affecting their relationship.
  • Breather Episode: The last two chapters had a lot to take in, so this one is about getting everyone outside of the main cast in the Owl House up to speed.
  • The Bus Came Back: Dipper and Mabel make their first appearances in Book 2, having last appeared in Book 1's epilogue.
  • But Now I Must Go: Seeing that her daughters and grandchildren have enough to deal with, Gwen decides to return home.
  • Call-Back:
    • Luz brings up Skara getting kidnapped back in "Escape", initially assuming Camila is the Shapeshifter.
    • The previous chapter's events are mentioned when Luz and Amity inform their friends of what happened.
    • Lilith asks Dr. Bride questions regarding the lightning power she used as the Raven Beast in "Grandmother Knows Best".
    • Luz tells Camila that Belos is human, a cambion like her and he offered to teach her how to control her power, all of which happened in "The Reveal".
  • The Cameo:
    • Dr. Bride takes a house call to check on Camila, then answers Amity and Lilith's questions on their current conditions.
    • Gus appears sulking in his room while Luz attempts to call him for a group chat before choosing to ignore it.
    • Steve briefly appears to report and show the drone he spotted to Belos.
  • Cooldown Hug: Once Luz accepts her birth mother is standing before her, she hugs her while crying. Camila comforts her and doesn't break off the embrace when shaking hands with Gwen.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • See The Talk below.
    • Camila notes Luz and Amity changing their hair since the last time she spoke to them.
    • Dr. Bride asks Camila not to mention her ex, Dr. Frankenstein, in front of her.
    • Gus is shown to still be grounded for shoplifting from the mall.
    • Amity hasn't finished reading "Beauty and the Beast" to King after starting to do so in "The Book of King".
  • Deal with the Devil: Dolly agreed to be the Inner Demon's helper in exchange for eternal youth. Now that he's found a new helper, he breaks the deal.
  • Demonic Possession: The Inner Demon does this to the Shapeshifter so he can access the physical world.
  • Disc-One Final Boss: Dolly Tempus is officially knocked out of the Big Bad Ensemble and replaced with the Shapeshifter as the Inner Demon's helper.
  • Dramatic Irony: Addy had a recurring nightmare about being a prisoner trapped in her parents' factory. Oh, how right she was...
  • Drowning My Sorrows: After Odalia discovers Edric and Emira have left the manor to stay with Geist, she heads straight for the kitchen and starts drinking apple blood.
  • Dumped via Text Message: A patron at Geist's bar admits his girlfriend just dumped him this way moments before the twins arrive.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: When Luz asks if Belos could've been the one who resurrected Camila, Lilith states he's against the idea of undoing death. Hunter later reveals Belos went as far as to outlaw it.
  • Extremely Short Timespan: The whole chapter occurs over a few hours on the same evening of the day the last chapter took place on.
  • Fate Worse than Death: Dolly's left to be a chew toy for the demon dog in her backyard after the Inner Demon turns her into a doll.
  • Fictional Counterpart: There's a store called "Hobby Gobby" in the Boiling Isles.
  • Foreshadowing: The Inner Demon sprinkles something over Dolly to turn her into a doll. Word of God confirmed it was Fae dust months later.
  • From Bad to Worse: Dipper just went through dealing with Bill hurting one of his sisters, only to realize Bill's free to mess with the other and there's nothing he can do to stop him.
  • The Ghost:
    • Arthur and Destiny are mentioned due to their actions having affected the two generations of the Blight family that followed after them.
    • The kids consider asking Anu Bist or Kitsuni about the dark magic used to revive Camila.
  • Hates Their Parent: Like Amity last chapter, Edric and Emira express their disgust with Odalia for not only telling Lilith to curse Eda but said secret being the reason Amity's no longer part of their family. Emira later voices her anger about their parents hardly being in their lives and uses this as reason to go live with Geist.
  • Immediate Sequel: Barring the Flashback, the first scene picks up on everyone's reactions to seeing Camila in front of them, the evening after the previous chapter's events. When the scene changes to Blight Manor, Odalia and Alador are shown arguing after getting the latter's parents committed.
  • In Spite of a Nail: Gwendolyn leaves the Owl House to return home, but not before telling Luz about Titan's Blood and giving her advice on finding the item in Bonesborough Library that will help her make a new portal to the Human Realm.
  • Internal Reveal:
    • Camila meets Lilith, Gwendolyn and Dr. Bride for the first time.
    • Edric and Emira learn of Odalia's role in Eda being cursed and Amity disowning their family name.
    • The girls inform Willow, Skara, the multi-trackers, Bo, Amelia, Cat and Hunter about everything involving Amity being nameless and Camila being revived. Emperor Belos and Kikimora learn about it through the bug.
      • In the process, Hunter meets Bo, Jerbo and Barcus for the first time while formally meeting Amelia. He also learns about Anu Bist.
    • Skara, Amelia, Cat, Bo, Hunter, Belos and Kiki also learn about the séance Luz previously hosted.
    • Steve shows Belos, Hunter and Kikimora the drone Lilith spotted.
    • Luz tells Camila about her being a cambion, everything she learned from Belos (along with the deal he offered) and the Pines family.
  • Kick the Dog:
    • Lilith is forced to endure Camila's return along with the Baron taunting her about it.
    • Jugo, the guy who was just Dumped via Text Message, is given a birthday meal by Geist, who misread the whole thing.
  • Killed Off for Real:
    • To give Camila a physical form, the Baron sacrifices Puck's shadow as a vessel for her.
    • Luz's dad had died sometime after she was born.
  • Lampshade Hanging: There's this bit from Camila regarding her learning about her daughter sleeping with her girlfriend:
Camila: Ooh, I mean… you're probably a growing girl anyway with your age, thinking about sex-
Luz: No, no, I'm not having the talk again! Me and Amity aren't like that!
Camila: Luz, it's fine that you two share a bed. I mean as long as you use protection…
Luz: What do we need protection for?! We're both girls!
  • Laser-Guided Karma:
    • After Alador learned what happened to his siblings, he had Arthur and Destiny committed to a retirement home.
    • Continuing from "Grandmother Knows Best", Dolly is betrayed by the Inner Demon and transformed into a doll, left to be nothing more than a demon dog's chew toy.
    • Odalia gave Lilith the suggestion that ultimately ruined Eda's life and kept trying to force her children to follow her interests rather than their own. As a result of the former being revealed, her whole family has lost all respect for her as Amity disowning the Blight name means she's never returning home, Alador starts shutting her out to focus on curing his siblings and the twins run away to live with her brother.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Bill invokes this by not informing Luz what just happened with the Pines twins and with his deal with Dipper no longer being valid, she's unaware that whatever info she tells Bill will never be passed on to Dipper.
  • Loophole Abuse: Dipper may be able to cut ties with Bill, but Luz can't.
  • Luminescent Blush: Luz flares bright red when she admits to Camila that she's been sharing her room with Amity.
  • Make Way for the New Villains: The Inner Demon happily informs Dolly that he's found a new crony to do his bidding, so he no longer has any reason to keep her around and quickly gets rid of her.
  • Necromancy: The Baron uses this type of magic to revive Camila. Hunter suggests this to Luz and her friends and mentions that the Emperor banned it on the Isles because it's dark magic.
  • Nothing Is the Same Anymore: The Blight family has become completely divided (Amity being nameless leads to the twins running away from their parents while Alador starts focusing on curing his siblings of their mutations), Camila moves into the Owl House, Belos learns someone is working behind the scenes due to Camila's resurrection and someone else is gathering intel on the Boiling Isles, and Bill Cipher is now plotting to manipulate Luz after causing strife and a rift between the Pines twins.
  • Oblivious Guilt Slinging: Camila's very presence makes Lilith uncomfortable, since it makes her more uneasy to see the person she killed somehow alive. It gets harder for her when Camila thanks her for everything she did for Luz.
  • One Dialogue, Two Conversations: Briefly after Luz admits to Camila that she and Amity sleep together in her room. Camila believes that means the girls have sex, and a mortified Luz has to clarify that they merely share a bed.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Having learned that Dipper didn't trust her to confide in her about Bill, Mabel says she understands that he has secrets... while calling him "Mason" and keeping a dour attitude the whole time.
  • Opportunistic Bastard: Not even a few minutes after learning Amity's nameless, Belos decides to use it as leverage against her parents. He at least has enough decency to leave Camila alone.
  • Pet the Dog:
    • Despite their rivalry, Darius agrees to help Alador reverse his siblings' conditions after the Blight patriarch asks for his help.
    • The Emperor decides against doing anything about Camila for now, saying she and Luz deserve to enjoy their reunion.
  • Plot-Triggering Death: The opening scene is of Baron Samedi destroying Puck's shadow to bring Camila back to the world of the living, thereby negating her death.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Emira fires one off at Odalia after learning why Amity's become nameless.
Emira: (crying in anger) You know, I don't blame Amity for disowning us after everything that you put her through! You blackmailed her into ending things with Willow on her birthday, you forced us to be friends with people we don't like, and you tried to control her future! If Amity really didn't want to be a Blight anymore, you have no one to blame but yourself!
  • The Reveal:
    • The Baron had Puck's shadow steal Camila's glasses from the Owl House so he could resurrect her to get Lilith to confess to Luz about causing Camila's death.
    • Luz's father died in a workplace accident. Needing a change in locale (and possibly a fresh start to raise her daughter properly), Camila moved them out of Connecticut to Minnesota.
    • All of Alador's siblings were in the Abomination track, but Ardon and Addy switched to the plant and oracle tracks, respectively.
    • The metallic object Lilith saw was a surveillance drone, which was sent by Director Gates.
    • Geist now runs a bar out of his old lounge.
    • Dolly made a deal with the Inner Demon to preserve her youth through immortality. She wanted nothing more than to be just like him, a sentiment he doesn't share.
    • Dipper has learned the truth about Bill, and so has Mabel who's gotten injured thanks to Bill.
  • The Runaway: "Runaways". Sick of living at Blight Manor with her parents barely home and having learned what happened of Odalia's past mistake and Amity becoming nameless, Emira decides that she and Edric must leave and stay with Geist until they graduate. Despite initial reluctance, Edric agrees.
  • Sequel Hook: Camila promises Luz she'll tell her about her father when she's ready, Alador and Darius begin working together to try and cure Alador's siblings, Luz considers asking Kitsuni if she knows who could've revived Camila, the twins keep the option of going nameless on the table, and the Pines twins' rift will have repercussions.
  • Series Continuity Error: Luz introduces Viney to Hunter forgetting they already met back in "Doctor's Visits and Party Incidents". Not to mention she acts like Amelia's already been formally introduced to him, but this is the first time they've actually interacted with each other.
  • Sinister Surveillance: Turns out Director Gates sent a surveillance drone through Dr. Frakes' portal to help her get visuals on the Boiling Isles.
  • Something Only They Would Say: To convince everyone, especially a crying Luz, that Camila is real and not the shapeshifter, she lists off everything Luz said about her friends back during the séance. Taking this as proof, Luz hugs her birth mother with Tears of Joy.
  • The Talk: Camila attempts to give Luz this upon learning she and Amity sleep in the same bed, only for Luz to strongly inform her Eda already gave it to her.
  • There Can Only Be One: The Inner Demon's reason for backstabbing Dolly is because she wants to be like him, which he won't allow.
  • True Companions: Amity officially declares Skara, Amelia and Cat as true friends after seeing how concerned they are for her and how much they want to support her in her time of need.
  • Wham Episode: Edric and Emira leave Blight Manor to stay with Geist, Gwendolyn decides to leave the Owl House and gives Luz information on the other human visitor to the Isles, Dolly is betrayed by the Inner Demon, the Emperor learns someone is spying on the Isles and Dipper learns Bill's true nature, causing a rift between him and Mabel and leaving Bill free to manipulate Luz.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness:
    • The Baron tells Puck's shadow this right after he shoves him into the vortex he's opened.
    • By this point, The Inner Demon decides Dolly is no longer useful to him and replaces her with the Shapeshifter.
