Art by Crash X Fusion: Seems like they could have another thing in common.

Luz contemplates in telling Amity the truth while being roped into an adventure with the Blight twins.

Tropes that appear in this Chapter:

  • An Aesop: Although someone has the right to be mad at those who wrong them, living in the past and holding a grudge isn't beneficial to both parties. Striving to be a better person will yield greater results.
  • At Least I Admit It: Edric points out that Luz is kind of crazy: she embraces that fact.
  • Bait-and-Switch: When Luz hears she missed a globe call from a girl from Hexside, she believes it's Willow. It's actually Viney telling her they need to confess to Principal Bump about the ghost infestation.
  • Birds of a Feather: Amity admits to Luz that they both refuse to show weakness, that they won't let people see they get to them.
  • Bitch Slap: Luz gives Emira a hard one.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: Spellpool looks at the reader and tells them he's only a parody before Luz closes his book.
  • Briefcase Full of Money: In exchange for Luz helping them find the book they're looking for, the twins offer her a big bag of cash i.e. half of their allowances.
  • The Cameo:
    • Cat briefly appears and ends up unknowingly playing a vital role.
    • Viney also shows up through a globe call.
  • Continuity Nod: The twins refer to their sister as "Haunted Amity".
  • Crush Blush: Luz turns red after Amity smiles at her, then when she tells Eda her feelings towards the youngest Blight have changed.
  • Death Glare: Luz shoots one at the twins when telling them to get lost.
  • Death Montage: All of Luz's considered confessions become this.
Luz: Why do all of them end with me dying!?
  • Everyone Has Standards: Edric calls out Emira for flirting with Luz to mess with her.
  • Everybody Knew Already: Eda tells Luz she knows the truth about the Abomination ghost infestation. King also knows, along with the living objects around the house.
  • Flashback Cut: Luz has one to the first time Eda read "Otabin" to her.
  • Forgiveness: Amity decides to forgive Luz for the ghost infestation rather than let it determine their relationship now.
  • Freak Out: After sending the twins running, Luz begins to suffer an anxiety attack that causes her to stop breathing. Luckily, Amity's close by and knows how to handle such moments.
  • Get Out!: Luz shouts this to the twins so they'll leave Amity's hideout and they make tracks, not wanting to be around her in her current state.
  • Guilt Complex: After their respective talks with Willow, Luz and Viney become wracked with guilt over the ghost infestation and decide to confess to Amity and Principal Bump.
  • Hope Spot: Hearing King say she missed a globe call from a girl from Hexside causes Luz to assume it's Willow wanting to talk. It's not.
  • Imagine Spot: Luz thinks up three different scenarios on how Amity would react to the truth of the ghost infestation. All three end with Luz dying.
  • Insane Equals Violent: After admitting she can be crazy, Luz swiftly beats up Edric and Emira before chasing them out of Amity's secret hideout.
  • In Spite of a Nail: Otabin is still turned into a monster, one of the girls still lends the other an Azura book and the Bat Queen still promises Eda a favor to repay.
  • Instant Costume Change: Using her diary powered by the Wailing Star's magic, Amity switches to a purple and black version of Azura's clothes while fighting Otabin.
  • Internal Reveal:
    • After much inner debating, Luz finally confesses about the abomination track ghost incident to Amity. In the process, she tells her about the Secret Room of Shortcuts.
    • Eda tells Luz she knew she caused the ghost infestation all along.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: The twins gets their butts handed to them single handedly by Luz for trying to steal Amity's diary.
  • Liar Revealed: Luz's confession to Amity also doubles as this.
  • Living Shadow: Edric and Emira are scared by one at the end of the chapter.
  • Like Mother, Like Daughter: Eda points out that Luz is doing the same things as her during her time at Hexside, having realized Luz has taken after her a bit too much. Eda has also passed on her distaste for the flowery writing of Azura to her.
  • Luminescent Blush: Luz blushes 5 times: once from Edric winking at her, another when Emira teases her, then when she admits how much Otabin means to her and the last two are crush blushes after she realizes she has feelings for Amity.
  • Magic Music: Sabine the Teenage Hex Girl can shoot musical blasts with her guitar.
  • Medium Awareness: Spellpool points out the fact that he's in a world where everything's blank and full of texts and things he says.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: Luz dishes one out on Edric and Emira, leaving them with a respective bloody nose and a slap mark on the cheek.
  • Noodle Incident: The Clawthornes nearly lived in a hippie commute once. They also ran an underground gambling parlor before Coven guards busted them via a sting operation.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: Luz refuses to help the twins mess with Amity in such a heartless way, only for Emira to say she had no problem tricking Boscha into pepper spraying herself.
  • Pet the Dog: Upon seeing Levi struggling, Luz helps him out and even offers to work for his dad in his place until he's healed.
  • Point of Divergence: To "Lost in Language": Luz does help Eda and King with the Bat Queen's kids, the Blight twins suffer Adaptational Karma for trying to humiliate Amity, and Amity is the one who lends Luz a Good Witch Azura book. To top it all off, Luz develops a crush on Amity before the other way around happens.
  • Propaganda Piece: Luz states Captain Coven serves as this for the coven system.
  • Puppy-Dog Eyes: This is how the twins convince the hesitant Luz to join them at the library later that night.
  • The Reveal: Willow's parents taught her a technique for dealing with panic attacks, which they also taught Amity.
  • Rule of Three: Luz thinks up 3 different ways Amity would react to her confessing to the ghost infestation: they end with Amity summoning an abomination fist to crush Luz, shooting her into space on a rocket, and trying to kill her with a knife to make them even.
  • Security Blanket: Otabin for Luz. Reading the book after the Slayground Incident helped with her recovery and she even made the main character her Imaginary Friend for awhile.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Edric shouts "Aw, sick!" when Emira wipes a caterpillar on him.
    • Several characters that come out of books enchanted by the Wailing Star include Spellpool, a parody of Deadpool (who immediately realizes what's happening and attempts to talk to the reader) Captain Coven, a superhero inspired by "Sora, Warrior of the Sea" from One Piece & Sabine the Teenage Hex Girl, a combination of Sabrina the Teenage Witch and Hex Girl Thorn.
  • Small Role, Big Impact:
    • In warning Amity about the twins being with Luz, Cat ended up instigating the former's role in saving Luz while she was having an anxiety attack.
    • Additionally, Willow taught Amity her dads' solution for anxiety attacks, which she uses to help Luz.
  • Time Skip: A few days have passed since the night of the sleepover.
  • The Un-Reveal: The diary entry that details what Lilith wanted Amity to do to make up for blowing off the witch's duel is cut off.
  • What Is This Feeling?: Luz feels her heart skip a beat upon seeing Amity smile at her and wonders what it meant all the way home.
  • Wham Episode: Luz reveals the truth of the ghost infestation to Amity and later realizes she has a crush on her.
  • Wham Line:
    Luz: I uh… think I like Amity.
Eda: Well, that's great that you like her.
Luz: (her face turns red) No, I mean I like Amity.
  • Wham Shot: The moving shadow of a mysterious creature that scares the twins which has small horns.
