See here for the main recap page.

Our heroes have some well-earned free time between missions, although some of their sidequests are a bit more relaxing than others. Enjoy it while it lasts, fellas. Taako has a date with death. Merle spends time with some V.I.P's. Magnus takes a swim.

Tropes

  • Chess with Death: Taako and Kravitz debate over the fate of Refuge and the team's consequences for avoiding death multiple times.
    • Which quickly turns into an awkward Divine Date when Taako chose a wine-and-pottery place on Couples' Night.
  • Game-Breaker: Subverted gloriously. Early in the series, the cast invited listeners to submit ideas for magic items that the characters could buy between arcs at the Fantasy Costco. For each interlude, Griffin would choose those that were most interesting—and well-balanced—to stick a price tag on. However, he bent the "well-balanced" rule for one item: the Flaming Poisoning Raging Sword of Doom, which was designed by a listener's young son and is as ludicrously powerful as it sounds. It was given a price of 60,000 gold, assumed to be well out of the heroes' range for all eternity.

In this episode, one of the new items stocked is the "Slicer of T'pire Weir Isles", which has no inherent use except that the bearer has a chance to convince a trader that it is a fair trade for their most valuable item. Apparently Griffin underestimated his players' cunning, because Taako purchases the slicer for a modest 900 gold and immediately trades it back for the sword.

The subversion is that Taako (a wizard who has probably made one weapon attack in the adventure so far) keeps the sword for himself and plants it on his back as nothing more than a status symbol.
Griffin the DM: As soon as I realized what you were doing, I was sent into a panic spiral.
  • Oh, Crap!: Griffin gets a truly glorious meta example when he realizes what Justin/Taako's about to do.
    Taako: Garfield?
    Garfield: Yes?
Taako: I have something that I think is really gonna interest you.
    [Beat.]
    Griffin: OH MY GOD.
  • When You Coming Home, Dad?: Merle's kids ask him why he's been away, and when he'll be done with his job to visit them more.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Merle is more than willing to bash Angus' brains out for following him around.
