Recap / Lucifer (2016) S02E09 "Homewrecker"

Go To

With the death of a real estate mogul, Lucifer discovers that he might get evicted from the Lux. Mother tries to use this to her advantage to convince him to return with her and Amenadiel to the Silver City.

Tropes present in this episode include:

  • Are You Pondering What I'm Pondering?: Lucifer asks this of Chloe; her response is a flat "no".
  • Asshole Victim: Cooper's dad.
  • Cliffhanger: The episode ends with Mother having planted a C4 bomb on Chloe's car and about to press the detonator.
  • Bait-and-Switch: Lucifer confronts the people who are about to move his property out of Lux, the music gets ominous and it seems he's about to show them his devil's face, then we have a cut to Lucifer throwing a massive party for the workers instead.
  • Dating What Daddy Hates: Cooper's dad doesn't approve of his girlfriend, even if she's not a Gold Digger.
  • Everyone Can See It: Linda, Dan, and now even Mother have caught wind of Lucifer and Chloe's UST.
  • Faux Horrific: Lucifer is appalled that Mrs. Bloom is going to tear down the Lux and build a shopping mall in its place.
  • Fidelity Test: It's revealed that Cooper's dad hired a man, who specializes in this trope, among other things, to try to prove that his future daughter-in-law was a Gold Digger. However, when the girl proved to be genuinely in love, Cooper's dad demanded that the guy Photoshop some incriminating photos of her, which he can use to show to his son.
  • Gilligan Cut: When Lucifer doubts Maze's belief that his mother was responsible for his impending eviction, she storms out, declaring that if he can't see it, she'll find someone who will. Cut to:
    Amenadiel: I don't see it.
  • Literal Metaphor: Mother describing the aftermath of her breakup.
Mother: Honestly, I was in hell for what felt like forever. I've only recently come back.
  • Love Revelation Epiphany: Linda makes Lucifer realize that the reason he considers LA his home now isn't the Lux, but rather a very specific person.
  • Parental Sexuality Squick: Amenadiel is in dire need of some Brain Bleach when he sees his mother making out with Dan. Maze even takes a snapshot of his disgusted grimace for posterity—and, of course, to troll him even further.
  • Right Behind Me: When Maze is trying to convince Amenadiel that Mother killed Dean Cooper:
Amenadiel: So why would she murder some human?
Maze: That woman is dangerous, duplicitous... And she's standing right behind me, isn't she?
Mother (who is, indeed, right behind her): Pardon my interruption, but what am I being blamed for now?
  • Sickeningly Sweethearts: Cooper's fiancée tells him she doesn't need the money, just him.
Lucifer: What a day. Potentially homeless and definitely nauseated.
  • Super-Strength: Mother manages to shove lawyer "Kevin Burnick" across the room and into a wall with just one finger.
  • Taking the Heat: In the end, both Cooper and his fiancée claim to have committed the murder, trying to protect one another. It's mentioned that, at least, they can be together in prison, forgetting that there are no co-ed prisons in the US.
