Recap / Little Princess S 2 E 3 I Want To Be A Pirate

Go To

The episode opens on the Admiral talking to a duck. We move into the Princess's room, where she jumps out with an eye patch on and exclaims, "Aharr!". The narrator wonders if she's hurt her eye, but she explains that she's being a pirate. She then shows him a painting she did of a pirate battling a sea monster and decides she needs a sword. She decides to use her umbrella, and, in lieu of a parrot, to dress Gilbert up using a party hat as a fake beak.

The Princess has nearly completed her pirate look, but decides she needs a hat. She doesn't have one, but she hears the Admiral and thinks of borrowing his hat. She asks if she can, but he refuses on account of pirates being "very naughty people". However, he gives in when she promises not to be too naughty.

While Puss and Scruff try (and fail) to ride a toy boat, the Princess goes off to be minorly naughty like she said she would. She hides a frog in the Maid's laundry, says, "Boo!" to the Chef while he's icing a cake, and pokes the General in the butt when he's lining up his toy soldiers.

The Princess then goes out to dig for treasure, but finds none, so she thinks of stealing some. She cycles towards the pond, where the Admiral and General are discussing the Princess's pranks. They hide in a bush and the Princess announces her intention to steal treasure. The two men have none, then the Maid calls the Princess in for lunch.

At lunch, the Princess says that, being a pirate, she doesn't need to wash her hands and only wants "pirate food". She is served, to her disappointment, a cold bowl of fish stew. Then, she asks the Maid to play with her, but the Maid, being the Neat Freak she is, has her clean the hallway floor and pretend they're swabbing the deck. She later asks the Gardener to play pirates with her, but he has her dig for potatoes instead of treasure.

The Princess then goes off to sulk about how she hates being a pirate, returns the Admiral's hat, and decides to play as a sea monster instead, this time with the Admiral and General being in on the game.

This episode provides examples of

  • Accessory-Wearing Cartoon Animal: At one point, the pets show up wearing a headscarf and an eye patch (Puss) and a night cap (Scruff).
  • Blatant Lies: When the Princess asks the Admiral if he's there, he replies, "No!".
  • Card-Carrying Villain: Downplayed when the Princess self-identifies as naughty when playing pirate.
  • Comically Missing the Point: The narrator mistakenly thinks the Princess has injured her eye when he sees her in an eye patch.
  • Covered in Mud: Puss ends up covered from head to toe in mud when Scruff digs in the garden.
  • Dressed to Plunder:
    • The Princess wears an eyepatch and belt when she's pretending to be a pirate, then adds a hat.
    • Puss puts on a headscarf and eye patch at one point.
    • When the Maid is playing pirates, she wears a headscarf.
    • When the Gardener is being a pirate, he wears an origami pirate hat.
  • Episode Tagline: Princess says, "Aharr!" many times in this episode as part of her pirate act.
  • Eye Scream: Discussed when the narrator wonders if the Princess is wearing an eye patch because she's hurt her eye.
  • Faux Horrific: The Admiral and General hide in a bush lest the Princess... prank them.
  • I Don't Think That's Such a Good Idea: When the Princess says she will steal some treasure, the narrator says, "Um, Princess, do you think that's a very good idea?".
  • Incredibly Lame Fun:
    • Maid's idea of playing pirates is cleaning the hallway floor and pretending she's swabbing the deck.
    • The Gardener sees potatoes as treasure.

  • Rapid-Fire "No!": When the Chef spills his icing, he says, "No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no!".
  • Speak in Unison: The King and Queen say, "Oh, dear!" in unison when the Chef shows them his badly-iced cake.
  • Stock "Yuck!": Fish stew is portrayed as gross, which is common for both fish and stew. Then again, it is served cold, and even most people who like fish stew wouldn't want it cold.
  • Talk Like a Pirate:
    • When Princess is being a pirate, she says, "Aharr!", and addresses her parents as "my hearties".
    • When the Maid is being a pirate, she talks in a Cockney accent, calls the Princess "shipmate" and talks about the "high seas".
  • With Catlike Tread: The Princess outright says, "I've come to steal your treasure".
