Season 1, Episode 5: Night of the Leeches

Tropes That Appear In This Episode:

  • The Bluebeard: Baka (played by Dave Bautista) is prone to eating his wives.
  • Both Sides Have a Point: Chrissy's right that Laura's Hair-Trigger Temper and contempt for social norms reflects poorly on their family life, often being too caught-up committing violence and other high-octane weirdness to be present for her daughter. With that said, Laura is also right that a lot of the norms the other moms prescribe to are arbitrary and that the violence she's committing is meant to keep their home afloat and Chrissy safe from evil forces out to get her.
  • Country Matters: The first thing Laura does upon being released from the thrall of the leeches is ask why the other PTA moms are in their house, referring to them with this.
  • Dissonant Serenity: Chrissy's Out-of-Character Alert kicks in when Laura blissfully walks by when she is attacked by a monster, prioritizing planning a potluck over killing it and advising her to tear its heart out with a flakey tone.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: Laura uses Anger-Leeches to keep her emotions in check, numbing her to things she should genuinely find distressing and using more and more of them before overtaking her, not unlike a medicinal dependency.
  • Emotion Eater: Laura brings out Anger-Leeches to feed off of her anger.
  • Fair-Weather Friend: By the end of the episode, it's revealed that Baka, Mabel and Bogey don't see Satan as a friend; they see him as a meal-ticket, joining him so that they have a seat at the table for when Maximus Dawnus happens.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: After hitting her Rage Breaking Point, Amanda reveals that she envies Laura because she doesn't have all of the social pressures of being a PTA-Helicopter mom.
  • Humanity Is Infectious: Satan finds that he is unable to kill any of the humans on their human-killing binge, being unable to bring himself to do it after all of his bonding time with Chrissy.
  • Mundane Utility: Chrissy finds out that Laura's daily chores include using a variety of spells and imprisoned monsters to keep the house running off the grid.
  • Raijū: Turns out that Laura keeps a raiju connected (by its nipples, no less) to the breakers to give the house electricity.
  • Rage Breaking Point: Laura is at the PTA gathering for less than a couple minutes before cursing out at the PTA moms, assaulting the school mascot and telling everyone to "suck on [her] clit" before storming out. And even before then, she was clearly annoyed at having to attend, thanks to Chrissy.
    • Likewise, Amanda reaches hers when Chrissy curses her off and then goes on a rage-filled rant over how stressful her life is and is jealous of Laura for not feeling pressured to be a PTA parent. This ends up attracting the anger-leeches to her and Chrissy, who notices this, purposefully angers the rest of the moms.
  • Stepford Smiler: The other moms come across as well-adjusted compared to Laura, but the mask starts to slip when they find out about Laura's anger-leeches, revealing that they are all bitter and stressed out underneath their facade.
  • True Companions: Even with all of the grief Satan gives him, Snake-With-Arms still defends him when his posse attack him because, in spite of everything, they are friends.
  • We Want Our Jerk Back!: At first, Chrissy is glad to have a "normal" mom, but soon finds that "normal" Laura is too passive to care for her or protect her from demons.
