David faces a new threat.
Tropes:
- Mood Dissonance: David sings and plays "The Rainbow Connection" for Syd on the banjo while they're in a beautiful, softly lit pure-white bedroom. What should be romantic and sweet instead becomes incredibly chilling to watch, because David is visibly terrified — so badly that he can barely sing — and is trying desperately to warn Syd about the horrifying demonic entity that's trapped in there with them, but can't.
- The Pursuing Nightmare: Syd finds herself cornered in David's mind with the Devil with Yellow Eyes slowly pursuing her around it, clearly taking great delight in the fact that Syd can't escape and David is helpless to stop him. Worse still, getting ensnared by the Devil results in Syd, David, and the rest of the mutants getting dragged into a Nightmare of Normality set in Clockworks Asylum.
- Tuneless Song of Madness: During a visit to David's mind, Syd stumbles upon David's image, singing "The Rainbow Connection" and accompanying himself on the banjo. From his tone of voice, it's clear that he's terrified beyond description of something Syd can't see, but it's not until later that we realize why: the Devil with Yellow Eyes is taking over, once again driving David to madness.
