A powerful couple with political collections is found dead in their beds and their spoiled, big-spending daughter (Sarah Paulson) is the prime suspect.
This episode provides examples of:
- Antagonistic Offspring: Anne Gillette murdered her parents because they wouldn't give her money anymore and were going to cut her out of the will.
- Daddy's Girl: Anne Gillette mentions that she's closer to her father. When her mother finally made him realize how much he spoiled her, Anne killed both of them.
- Deceased Fall-Guy Gambit: After killing her parents, Anne set things up to make it look like her father murdered her mother and then committed suicide.
- Faking the Dead: Olivia and Ash as part of a Xanatos Speed Chess in order to get a confession from Anne Gillette that she killed her parents. It works.
- Femme Fatale: Anne Gillette is willing to use her sexuality to get what she wants.
- Guest-Star Party Member: Det. Ashok Ramsey from Special Frauds.
- It's All About Me: Anne Gillette only cares about Anne Gillette.
- Manipulative Bastard: Anne Gillette really loves plotting and having people at the palm of her hands.
- Mask of Sanity: Anne Gillette is a dangerously insane person who pretends to be a sweet ditz.
- Mythology Gag: Ash shows the detectives pictures of Anne when she was young. One of those pictures is of Anne as a teenager in a school uniform. This picture is actually of a different character that Sarah Paulson played in the mothership series episode "Family Values".
- Never Suicide: After Anne Gillette murders her parents, she sets it up to appear as a Murder-Suicide.
- Not So Similar: Anne Gillette tries to win Ashok Ramsey by bringing up their wealthy and highly pressured upbringing . Ash gave her "The Reason You Suck" Speech claiming he's not a Self-Made Orphan like her.
- Psychopathic Womanchild: Anne, herself is this when she’s being arrested, screaming like an angry teenager.
- Rich Bitch: Anne Gillette, to the point that she killed her parents for their money.
- Ripped from the Headlines: Loosely based on the case of Lizzie Borden, who was tried and acquitted for the murders of her father and stepmother in August of 1892. Borden even got a Shout-Out.
- Screw the Rules, I Have Connections!: Anne Gillette brags about it to Elliot, saying she has people who could kill his loved ones if she wanted to.
- Screw the Rules, I Have Money!: Basically how Anne Gillette gets by.
- Secondary Character Title: The title refers to Detective Ashok Ramsey, who was shadowing Anne Gillette.
- Self-Made Orphan: Anne Gillette, though she only targeted her mother. She considers her father collateral damage.
- Smug Snake: Anne Gillette is fond of Evil Gloating but if things don't go her way, she flips out.
- The Sociopath: Anne is described as one, having a complete Lack of Empathy and being completely unconcerned with the morality of her actions. Detective Ramsey also says that he deals with many non-violent sociopaths in his unit and is looking forward to being able to put a sociopath away for once.
- Spoiled Brat: Anne Gillette just wants things to go her way.
- Stalker with a Crush: What the characters thought of Ashok Ramsey until the Undercover Cop Reveal.
- Stalker without a Crush: Anne Gillette first thinks Ashok Ramsey is the inverse, but he's actually an undercover cop from the Special Frauds Unit who is trailing her spending.
- Undercover Cop Reveal: Anne Gillette first thought Ashok Ramsey is her Stalker with a Crush until Ash reveals himself as a member of Special Frauds.
- Villainous Breakdown: Anne Gillette goes into this, even screaming I'll Kill You! at Olivia when she finds that she's been played up by the squad's Faking the Dead gambit.
- Xanatos Speed Chess: As Anne Gillette has the money and connections to manipulate the situation, the main characters have to think fast to put her down.
