Note: This episode shares a title with a Season 15 episode

  • Addiction Displacement: Ballard recovered from heroin addiction and replaced it with his devotion to First Harmony Church and pastor Mike.
  • The Alibi: Gorman was spotted on camera entering his apartment complex at the time of the victim's death.
  • Backfire on the Witness Stand: Price puts Sherman on the stand to testify that Butler ordered him to kill Wade, but Sherman perjures himself and denies that Butler told him any such thing.
  • Belief Makes You Stupid: Invoked. The congregants of the First Harmony Church are well-aware that most non-faithful immediately tend to think they're all idiots when they hear about the regular and sizable donations they make and which their pastor uses to live like a king, and are very defensive about the religious basis behind their actions. Viewers are left to make up their own minds as to whether or not they should be considered gullible.
  • Creepy Stalker Van: A blue van with a green pinstripe was noted to have been following the deceased.
  • Good Fortune from God: Butler advocates this and tells his congregants that if they send him money, they'll be blessed. It's unclear if the former chief pastor (and his current advisor) Bryant advocated for that too back when he ran the church.
  • Gospel Choirs Are Just Better: Butler preaches to the church about the financial support right after the Sing Harlem Choir sings. He manages to get two sentences out before the detectives arrest him.
  • Off the Wagon: After Butler is convicted, Lonnie Ballard overdoses on heroin.
  • Sinister Minister: Pastor Mike ordered his vice-pastor, Sherman, to kill Emily after she demanded that the former return her foster brother's $50,000 donation.
