Tropes

  • A Deadly Affair: The shooting left Todd's manager dead.
  • Asshole Victim. Subverted with Todd, as she wasn't the victim, but clearly was the intended target. Played straight in that she's a smug jerk who tells the police how to do their job, and few people like to spend time with her if they don't have to.
  • Downer Ending: McCoy is forced to take the plea of a man who almost certainly didn't do it because that man is protecting the daughter who probably did.
  • Girl on Girl Is Hot: The reason Todd hid her relationships with women is that she tended to either get this or a disgusted reaction.
  • Never the Obvious Suspect: The real killer isn't even suspected for most of the episode.
  • Ripped from the Headlines: The Eugene Bennett case. He was an agent who fount out his wife was having an affair with Patricia Cornwall, and took his wife and pastor hostage.
  • Troubled Teen: Tyler's daughter Courtney shot Todd because she wanted her parents to stay together. Probably.
