Recap / King Of The Hill S 11 E 5 Hank Gets Dusted

Go To

Cotton arrives with big news: He's selling his beloved Cadillac car...to Hank's cousin Dusty Hill of ZZ Top. Who comes to town with a camera crew filming a reality show.

  • Adam Westing: Dusty Hill as Hank's annoying, prank loving cousin.
  • /Big Brother Bully: As Hank is ashamed to admit, Dusty was one of these, frequently pranking and driving him up the wall when they were younger.
  • Callousness Towards Emergency: When Dusty Hill is trapped in the flaming Cadillac, Portis and the rest of the reality TV crew are more concerned with coming up with better peril lines than actually helping him escape.
  • Comically Missing the Point: As they jockey for the camera's attention, John Redcorn admits straight to Dale's face his affair with Nancy. Dale being Dale however...
John Redcorn: I slept with his best friend's wife! For 13 years!
Dale: Yeah, Bill's wife was a tramp, big deal.
  • Cool Uncle: Bobby certainly thinks this of Dusty. Hank, however, thinks differently.
  • Everybody Has Standards: Dusty disagrees with the producers using propane to mess with Hank, thinking it's going too far. He also sympathizes with Hank when told about how much of a Jerkass Cotton's been to him all his life.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Portis the producer (played by Will Arnett) and his crew. When they realize that Hank's anger is television gold, they focus all their energy into creating more infuriating situations for him. Even when Dusty wants to lay off Hank, they orchestrate the demolition derby to get one more rise out of their favourite Butt-Monkey.
  • Traumatic Haircut: To save Dusty from perishing in the flaming Cadillac during a demolition derby, Hank has to cut his signature beard. He is not happy.
  • Unwitting Pawn: Dusty and his bandmates are outraged when they realize Portis knew Hank cared about the Cadillac and still convinced them to wreck it in a demolition derby, even after Dusty decided they needed to go easier on Hank.
  • Yank the Dog's Chain: Cotton once again shows how much of a loving parent he is to Hank by giving him the keys to the Cadillac, then telling him to his face that it's being given to Dusty. Dusty can't help but admit that for all his tomfoolery, even he feels Hank got the short end of the stick when it comes to Cotton.
