Recap / Kevin Can Fuck Himself S 01 E 03 Were Selling Washing Machines

Go To

Four years prior, Patty needed to get some oxycodone for Neil after he broke his leg during one of his and Kevin's stunts. After hearing a customer of hers at the salon complain about her pain medication being too expensive, Patty bought some cheap generic oxy to help her out, which soon grew into a side business for her. In the present, Patty finds that Allison has been pointed to her for painkillers. She reluctantly agrees to give Allison the pills the following Monday despite her knowing that Allison is not taking the pills for any back pain as she claims.

Allison continues to get harassed by Marcus; in response, Allison reports Marcus' drug dealings to the police. Marcus gets arrested and implicates Terrance, the pharmacist who had sold Patty the generic oxys. The police raid Terrance's pharmacy, putting Patty's business in jeopardy. It's then that Patty's boyfriend, Kurt, impulsively proposes to her.

Meanwhile, Kevin competes in a chili cook-off with Neil, and things escalate to the point that they break up their friendship. They respectively become much clingier towards Allison and Patty, forcing the two women to get the two to kiss and make up.

Sam receives his eight-year chip in AA, and he invites Allison. Allison attends the AA meeting and it's here that she runs into Sam's wife, Jenn.

Tropes

  • Blatant Lies: After Kevin declares that anyone who says they don't pee in the shower is lying about that, Allison asks him if he does. He unconvincingly answers "no."
  • Didn't Think This Through: Allison calls the cops on Marcus after getting fed up with his catcalling, anonymously reporting him as a drug dealer. It's a solid plan — except for the fact that after getting arrested, he outs Patty's supplier as the actual dealer, leaving her with no way of getting the oxycodone central to her plan to fake Kevin having an overdose.
  • Feud Episode: The sitcom portion of this episode is this for Kevin and Neil, who have an intense Cooking Duel after each claims responsibility for the success of their famous chili.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: This episode shows that Kevin, in true sitcom style, is much closer to Neil than he is to Allison. When the two get into a fierce competition to see who is the superior chili chef, Allison and Patty are respectively forced to spend more time with Kevin and Neil since they're no longer always together and find that they have to repair the friendship just to get some much-needed space from their ridiculous behavior. This is Played for Laughs in the multi-cam plot with the expected Women Are Wiser emphasis but takes on a darker edge in the single-cam segments, where Kevin's new clinginess is interfering with both Allison's ongoing plot to murder him and her efforts to spend time with Sam.
  • Malaproper: Kevin declares he'll become a "Kermit" when he really means "hermit".
  • Neighbourhood-Friendly Gangsters: Patty became this completely by accident. She started selling generic Oxycodone from her pharmacist because she saw her salon clients being left behind by the healthcare system and wanted to help. Those clients then pointed out other people to her and the whole thing became a side hustle for Patty.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: Allison sees that Patty doesn't like Kevin and Neil much either and has the biggest smirk on her face as she realizes that.
  • Replacement Goldfish: Kevin bonds with a whole pig carcass as a substitute for Neil.
