Recap / Kaeloo S 1 E 4 Lets Play At Reading Books

Go To

The main four go to a library. Stumpy searches for comic books while Quack Quack and Mr. Cat fight over a book with inappropriate pictures of girls. The only catch is that everyone has to be quiet or else risk a No-Holds-Barred Beatdown from Kaeloo.

"Let's Play at Reading Books" contains the following tropes:

  • Accidental Pun: Quack Quack slams a book in Mr. Cat's face by accident, causing him pain. When Mr. Cat tries to say his Catchphrase "Meow", it comes out as "Me..... OW".
  • Book Burning: Bad Kaeloo sets a pile of dirty magazines and comic books on fire because she thinks they're bad for the others.
  • Burning Rubber: Quack Quack's super-fast motorized kick-scooter leaves a trail of fire behind it.
  • Captain Obvious: While the main four are in the library:
Kaeloo: Shh! This is a library.
Mr. Cat (deadpan): I hadn't noticed.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Kaeloo is absolutely infuriated at the prospect of Mr. Cat looking at pictures of half-naked women in dirty magazines and ends up burning all the magazines; she is nowhere near that mad at Quack Quack.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Kaeloo's reaction to seeing Mr. Cat reading the dirty book is to light him on fire.
  • Farts on Fire: Bad Kaeloo lights a pile of books on fire by farting on a match.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Stumpy, of all people, calls Mr. Cat a loser.
  • Ironic Echo: In the French dub of the episode, when Mr. Cat sees the pictures in the book, he exclaims "oh, la, la!" At the end of the episode, where Kaeloo is implied to see Mr. Cat's... ahem, "goods", she has the same reaction. Averted in the English dub, where she exclaims "Mr. Cat!" in an excited tone.
  • Karma Houdini: Quack Quack did the same thing as Mr. Cat and got away with it.
  • Man on Fire: Bad Kaeloo sets Mr. Cat on fire for reading the magazines.
  • Wham Episode: At the end of the episode, we find out that Kaeloo might have a crush on Mr. Cat.
  • Yank the Dog's Chain: Stumpy spends the entire episode collecting Mr. Coolskin comic books. He finally finishes and happily shows his friends... only for Bad Kaeloo to set them all on fire, to his utter horror.
