Recap / Kaeloo S 1 E 3 Lets Play Red Light Green Light

Go To

In this remade version of the series' pilot, the main four play Red Light, Green Light, but every time Kaeloo turns her back, Mr. Cat injures Quack Quack.

"Let's Play Red Light, Green Light" contains the following tropes:

  • Bait-and-Switch: Stumpy needs to beat Quack Quack to the finish line. He sees a pair of roller skates and a chainsaw nearby and gets an idea... putting the chainsaw on the ground, sitting on its handle and letting it drag him along the ground, rather than use the skates. It actually works!
  • Comically Missing the Point: When Quack Quack is having trouble opening a yogurt container, Stumpy suggests using a chainsaw. Kaeloo tells him that chainsaws are for cutting trees, and then she proceeds to open the yogurt in a strategic manner and tell Stumpy to "use his head". Stumpy misunderstands this as "use your head to cut trees", so he runs headlong into a tree.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: Kaeloo says that chainsaws are for cutting trees, though future episodes portray her as a tree-hugging Nature Lover and one of the comics had her vehemently oppose the idea of even mowing the lawn because it hurts plants.
  • Determinator: Quack Quack, despite being horribly injured and beaten up by Mr. Cat, still makes an effort to reach the wall, and would've won had Stumpy not spotted him.
  • Gravity Is a Harsh Mistress: Quack Quack is launched several feet into the air by Mr. Cat's bazooka and enjoys flying until he looks down and sees the ground below, at which point he starts falling.
  • Here We Go Again!: The episode ends with Kaeloo transforming all over again with the intention of beating Mr. Cat up.
  • Running Gag: Whenever Kaeloo turns around, Stumpy moves for a perfectly valid reason (such as his tic acting up or him trying to point out that Quack Quack is on fire), and is sent back to the starting line. Notably, Mr. Cat is not punished for doing the same thing.
  • "Shaggy Dog" Story: A minor example in the beginning of the episode. Kaeloo tries to help Quack Quack open a container of yogurt. After she tries various methods to open it, she finally whacks it on the bottom, and the yogurt flies out and splatters all over a nearby rock.
  • Skewed Priorities: Mr. Cat fires a missile from a bazooka, and Quack Quack just stands in the path of the missile instead of running away like Kaeloo and Stumpy, because the rules of the game dictate that he shouldn't move.
  • Tempting Fate: After repeatedly injuring Quack Quack in various ways, Mr. Cat cheats and wins the first round. Kaeloo says that at least he won't be able to hurt Quack Quack during the second round of the game, but is proven wrong as he is able to hurt Quack Quack even worse than before.
  • That's Gotta Hurt: Stumpy says this after seeing Quack Quack and Mr. Cat get hurt, the former by a chainsaw and the latter by Bad Kaeloo.
  • Use Your Head: Stumpy tries to cut a tree by ramming into it with his head. He fails.
