Recap / Jessica Jones (2015) S2E4 "AKA God Help the Hobo"

Go To

While Hogarth is desperate at finding a cure for her ALS, Jessica makes a surprising new friend, just before her investigation on IGH takes a dramatic turn.

This episode contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Ambiguously Evil: Griffin takes a mysterious phone call when Trish leaves for a shower after they have sex. The only thing we learn is that he keeps something hidden from her.
  • Continuity Snarl: When Trish shows Jessica the blackmail video Malcolm filmed of her threatening Max Tatum, what we see is clearly not the exchange that we saw in the actual episode.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: "Leslie" kills Nick by ramming him against the walls of his van so hard that they bend, and rips off one of his arms.
  • Dungeonmaster's Girlfriend: Griffin offers to pull strings to get Trish a job as a news anchor at ZCN. Trish politely declines.
Trish Walker: I love you for offering, but going to them as Griffin Sinclair's girlfriend won't get me taken seriously.
Griffin Sinclair: I'll get you in the door. You'll prove yourself from there.
Trish Walker: I would rather prove myself from where I am.
  • Fantastic Racism: Jeri accuses Pryce Cheng of exhibiting this to justify his dislike of Jessica.
  • Foreshadowing: Pryce Cheng's visit to Jessica's apartment while Malcolm is doing remodeling work is him actually casing the place for when Nick steals things later.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Jess's landlord, Oscar, does a complete 180 after finding out she saved his son from a deadly fall.
  • Kick the Dog: Hogarth tells her doctor that she is useless when she refuses to order illegal, experimental drugs for treatment.
  • Leeroy Jenkins: Trish didn't tell Jessica about Max was because she knew she would just attack him outright for what he did.
  • Let's Get Dangerous!: When Jessica wants to go confront Inez, Trish wants to pack an automatic rifle. They then settle for a taser.
  • Never My Fault: Jessica's angry at Malcolm for not keeping Trish in her home like she told him to. When he tries to explain himself, she just gets angrier at him. Trish calls her out for pulling the paparazzi crap in the first place, but Jessica just moves the discussion along. Of course, Jessica feels she wouldn't have done it at all if Trish didn't try to get herself involved.
  • Noodle Incident: Trish has history with Sally. Apparently she once bit Sally on the arm and destroyed a dozen of her finest wigs.
Trish Walker: I was young. And entitled.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Pryce is pretty confused by Jeri's decision to take Jessica's side in the dispute.
  • Pet the Dog: After Jessica saves Vito's life, Oscar comes to say thank you and apologizes to her.
  • Really Gets Around: Turns out Malcolm has quite the casual sex life.
  • Troll: Sally, the wig shop owner, demands payment for every bit of information she gives Trish and Jessica on Leslie. After a number of questions, they ask her what else she knows, to which she replies that she doesn't have anything else...after getting paid again.
  • Victoria's Secret Compartment: Sally hides her bribes there after answering the questions.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Due to Jessica's actions in the previous episode, Trish's reputation is damaged and she is continually harassed by Paparazzi. She makes her promise never to do something like that again.
  • Wrong-Name Outburst: Malcolm calls his one night stand by the wrong name. She doesn't take it well.
