With Alisa in prison, Jessica tells Malcolm and Trish who she really is. Hogarth gets subjected to a horrible betrayal.
This episode contains examples of the following tropes:
- Accidental Murder: Jessica accidentally kills Dale Holiday when the latter surprises and brutally batters her after she breaks into his home.
- Asshole Victim: Holiday is an abusive murderer who enjoys torturing his victims. He doesn't treat his fellow guards well, either.
- Canon Foreigner: There's no Dale Holiday in the comics.
- Con Artist: Inez and Shane, who conned Jeri into getting the latter out of jail and truly thinking he had the power to heal, all to rob her.
- Creepy Souvenir: Holiday keeps a piece of the prison uniform (specifically the part with the number on it) of the people he's killed.
- Didn't Think This Through: It turns out that C-level radio personalities who get stoned and go on angry rants before quitting their job on the air typically don't get offered positions on major network news shows for a reason.
- Freudian Excuse: Dale went to live with his grandparents when he was a kid. "They gave me the discipline I needed."
- Heel–Face Door-Slam: After Jeri finally discovered some humanity inside herself again last episode, one can only wonder how the betrayal of Inez and Shane will affect her.
- I Just Want to Be Badass: Both Jessica and Alisa correctly deduce that Trish is jealous of Jessica and just wants to have powers too.
- Impairment Shot: After Holiday pepper sprays Jessica, we get a blurry first person POV shot.
- Internal Reveal: Malcolm and Trish learn the truth about Alisa from Jessica.
- "It" Is Dehumanizing: Dale solely addresses Alisa as inmate 46592. Turns out he is collecting these numbers, after killing the respective prisoners and making it look like suicide.Jessica: She has a name!
Dale: You can use it. - Kick the Dog: After Alisa defends herself against him, Dale Holiday has her strapped in superpower-proof restraints, tortures her with electric shocks and destroys several of her personal items, including a picture of her and Jessica.
- Manipulative Bitch:
- Inez used Hogarth's desperation to get her lover out of prison and then rob her.
- Trish manipulates Malcolm into helping her find Karl, under the pretense of arresting him. She then knocks him unconscious, obviously up to something else entirely.
- No-Tell Motel: Turns out the Jones family stayed at one when they went to the beach. That's where Alisa sent Karl.
- Notice This: Holliday's house is full of hunting trophies. You'll note that he always only ever prefers to hunt deer... except for the lone bear trophy hiding his "suicide" trophies.
- Oh, Crap!: Jessica when Karl makes it clear he has no idea who Shane is and his treatments would never give someone the power to heal.
- O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Jessica almost never addresses Jeri by first name, so it's something when she does so to inform her that Shane and Inez have scammed her.
- Placebo Effect: Hogarth initially refuses to believe Jessica that Shane is a fraud, as she is absolutely convinced that his 'powers' healed her.
- Playing the Victim Card: As Holiday attacks Jessica from behind and kicks her on the ground, he screams "You attacked me! You attacked me in my home! Self defense!"
- Punk in the Trunk: Trish knocks Malcolm out and shoves him in the trunk.
- The Reveal: Turns out Shane is a fraud and Karl doesn't even know him. When she returns home, Jeri sees that he and Inez robbed her blind.
- Serial Killer: Holiday has killed four inmates in other prisons and staged their deaths to look like suicide. Then he collects their inmate numbers for trophies.
- Sex for Solace: Malcolm and Trish engage in some after arguments with Jessica.
- Tap on the Head: Trish knocks Malcolm out with a single konk on the back of the head with her handgun.
- Torture Technician: Holiday really likes the shock torture on Alisa.
- Undying Loyalty: Alisa is absolutely adamant about not giving up Karl.
- Wardens Are Evil: Dale Holiday, who is in charge of guarding Jessica's mother, is a horribly sadistic piece of work. Later it turns out he has murdered several other inmates and kept their numbers as trophies!
- What the Hell, Hero?: Malcolm is furious with both Jessica and Trish for being repeatedly dishonest with him.
- You Are Number 6: Alisa is nothing more than #46592 to Holiday.
