Recap / Jackie Chan Adventures S 5 E 1 Relics Of Demons Past

Go To

Drago escapes Section 13 and sets out to find the immortal artifacts used to seal away the demon sorcerers as some of their chi have stuck onto the artifacts and activated due to the alignment of what Uncle calls "bad chi stars". The first artifact activated is the fan used to defeat Xiao Fung the wind demon.

Tropes appearing in this episode:

  • All Your Powers Combined: Uncle mentions that if Drago gets all the demon chi, the entire world would be under his claw.
  • Blow You Away: Jade accidentally absorbs the wind demon's chi.
  • Body Horror: Jade and Jackie when they see her as what Jade calls "Toad Girl". Jackie even hopes Jade was merely fooling around with Uncle's spells.
  • Compressed Vice: In this episode Jade develop a burping habit. While not completely out-of-character for her, it's only there because Jade ends up possessed by the chi of the Wind Demon and her loud, long belches could be weaponized. The burping never showed up before or after this episode.
  • Diabolus ex Machina: Last we saw Drago, he had a mouthguard to stop his fire breath. The mouthguard is somehow gone without any explanation, allowing him to simply blast away the door of his cell with a blast of dragon fire.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Subverted. Despite what Captain Black was thinking, Drago had absolutely no intention of busting out Shendu. He's willing to leave the "old gecko" to rot and take the Big Bad spot for himself.
  • Flashback: When Tohru explains the exposition, we see when Xiao Fung was defeated and banished.
  • Forced into Evil: Like Dalong Wong, Tarakudo, and his father before him, Drago turns to the Dark Hand for henchmen. They at first refuse but some fiery persuasion from Drago changes their minds. He transforms them into dragon men with fire powers. It doesn't last as Drago deems them weak and turns them back to normal.
  • Foreshadowing: Uncle and Tohru's research lets them discover that traces of the Wind Demon's chi ended up on the fan used to defeat him. Since it happened with him, that means that it also happened with all the demons.
  • Gasshole: Jade burps a lot in this episode. It becomes a plot point when she absorbs the wind chi.
  • Gotta Catch 'Em All: The quest for this season (which ultimately ends up being the last) is to find the seven demon chi powers of Shendu's brethren before Drago gets them.
  • I Am X, Son of Y: Drago introduces himself to the Enforcers this way. They are less than impressed with the son of Shendu, saying working for the old man wasn't exactly pleasant.
  • I Can Rule Alone: When Drago is escaping Section 13, Captain Black declares he wasn't going to let him free Shendu. Drago merely refers to his father as an "old gecko" and declares he's striking out on his own.
  • Motive Misidentification: Initially, Captain Black thought Drago was intending to free Shendu, only for Drago to escape on his own, revealing he had plans of his own. It took until Uncle and Tohru completed their research for his actual goal to be revealed.
  • Mundane Made Awesome: Ratso in his dragon form can create fire between his hands and is happy he can make grilled cheese anytime he wants.
  • Oh, Crap!: Jade when she first sees her Body Horror in the mirror.
  • Play-Along Prisoner: It's hinted that Drago was capable of busting out of his cell at any time. He chose to escape the moment the star alignment that would awaken the demon chi of his aunts and uncles began.
  • Would Hurt a Child: During his breakout, Jade goads Draco into focusing on her, and he is happy to oblige.
