Recap / Jackie Chan Adventures S 3 E 16 A Night At The Opera

Go To

Uncle takes the others to watch a Chinese opera led by his old friend. Things take a suspicious turn when the villainous characters from the opera start robbing museums.

  • Actor Allusion: Uncle's backstory of being part of a Chinese opera troupe was inspired by Jackie Chan's childhood.
  • Blood Knight: Jade is utterly uninterested in the opera until the show gets to fighting.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: Wing does this with two members of his opera troupe by refusing to believe they would exploit the magic makeup he provides them to commit robberies. He also does this with Jackie and Jade, seeing them more of a clumsy oaf and an inconsiderate child. By the end of the episode, he apologizes to Uncle about his mistake.
  • Irony: Uncle was apparently the joking class clown type when he was younger and was nicknamed "Chuckles".
  • Jerkass Has a Point: You’d forgive Wing for being mad at Jade for tampering with the stage, as someone could’ve seriously gotten hurt.
  • Nice Character, Mean Actor: The actors who play the farmer and clown are the thieves disguised as the villains.
  • Papa Wolf: The moment Wing insults Jade for messing with his stage, Uncle moves in to take her out of the theater. He even reveals the Wing’s secret of magic makeup to her (the very reason why she was messing with the stage in the first place) out of spite.
  • Series Continuity Error: This episode claims Uncle has been involved with magic since his childhood, with him originally studying theater magic as part of a Chinese opera troupe before becoming interested in Chi magic during his teens and abandon his study for opera star to continue on that path. This however contradicts the season 2 episode "Through the Rabbit Hole", in which a time traveling Jade encountered the 1970's uncle and to her dismay learned he could not help her return home because he hadn't started his magic training yet and thus knows nothing about magic.
