Recap / Jackie Chan Adventures S 3 E 15 Re Enter The Dragon

Go To

With only the dragon talisman's power remaining, but no dragons on earth to absorb the power, Daolon Wong makes a deal with a certain hot-tempered reptile.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Achilles' Heel: Apparently, the source of all Daolon's powers came from his staff. After Uncle neutralizes it, he is completely disenchanted.
  • All Your Powers Combined: Shendu drains the levitation and heat beam eyes from Daolon and then absorbs the other powers from the animals.
  • Bait-and-Switch Boss: The first half of the episode has the heroes attempt to foil Daolon Wong's plan to resurrect Shendu to gain the Dragon Talisman's power of combustion. Once Shendu is resurrected, he double-crosses Daolon Wong by taking the power of combustion for himself before draining the powers of levitation and heat-beam eyes from the Dark Chi Wizard, thus becoming the real threat for the remainder of the episode.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Just after Shendu had reabsorbed all the talisman powers and was about to eliminate Jackie and Jade, Uncle and Section 13 arrive to perform a certain spell Shendu is familiar with.
  • Bookends: The end of "The Powers Unleashed" had Jade ask if they could keep Scruffy to which they could (because he had the Dog Talisman powers of Immortality) with Jackie unsure yet Uncle quickly approving it. The end of this episode has her ask the same question (even though he's now a normal dog) and this time Jackie wholeheartedly agrees.
Jade: Can we keep him, can we keep him, please?
Jackie: Of course we can keep him.
    Jade: YAY!!!!
  • Brought Down to Badass: Shendu regains the power of the dragon, pig, and rooster talismans after returning to life, but is still missing the other nine talismans. He is still too powerful for Daolon Wong, and none of the weapons thrown at him by Section 13 can slow him down.
  • Brought Down to Normal: Daolon is disenchanted and the Enforcers are human again. Unfortunately, the latter can't enjoy it as they are immediately arrested afterwards.
  • The Bus Came Back: First appearance of Shendu since the demon portals arc in the previous season.
  • Conveniently Empty Roads: The roads are completely deserted during Jackie and Jade's car chase through the streets of San Francisco at night to escape from a levitating Shendu. More egregious than a night chase through the city might otherwise be because there's pedestrians out and about in one shot, but no sign of vehicles in use.
  • Deal with the Devil: Daolon offers to resurrect Shendu in exchange for the dragon power of combustion. Just like with Valmont, Shendu double-crosses Daolon Wong as soon as he gets what he wants.
  • Disc-One Final Boss: Despite serving as the Arc Villain for the majority of the season, Daolon Wong gets upstaged by Shendu as the final threat of the quest for the Talisman-empowered animals.
  • The Dog Bites Back: Daolon begrudgingly tells Uncle the spell to turn Shendu into stone and transform the powers into the talismans, in order to get back at Shendu.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: Jade stomps on the fire symbols for Shendu's resurrection ritual and then cools off her foot with a hose, then realizes the better solution.
  • Evil Is Not a Toy: Daolon Wong revives Shendu with the promise he will get the power of combustion in exchange for bringing the demon sorcerer back to life. Shendu naturally betrays the dark wizard, takes the power of combustion, and steals the power of the two talismans that Daolan Wong previously gained.
  • Evil Versus Evil: Attempted. Daolon gives Finn, Ratso, Chow, and Hak Foo armor and prepares them to fight Shendu. Uncle, Tohru, Captain Black and Section 13 interrupt them before they can do anything.
  • Hijacked by Ganon: Once Shendu is restored and the combustion power comes into existence, Daolon prepares to receive his reward only to be shoved out of the way by Shendu.
  • I Lied: Shendu double-crosses Daolon Wong by taking the Dragon Talisman's power for himself after his resurrection, leading to this exchange:
Daolon Wong: But brother of darkness, we had an arrangement!
Shendu: I may be a noble dragon, but I am also a demon sorcerer, and not known for keeping promises.
  • It's What I Do: After Shendu betrays Daolon Wong, he points out that while he is a noble dragon, he is also a demon sorcerer who is not known for keeping promises.
  • No-Sell: Shendu is met with a hail of weapons fire when he breaks into Section 13. Even without the dog talisman making him immortal and the Healing Factor of the horse talisman, none of the weapons affect him.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • The heroes when they find out that Daolon Wong plans to resurrect Shendu in order to get the Dragon Talisman’s power of combustion.
    • Shendu when he recognizes the spell everyone is using as the one that turned him into a statue the first time.
      Shendu: No, NO! NOT AGAIN!
  • Pure Is Not Good: Compared to the other animals, Shendu obviously lacks any noble qualities. However, because the dragons on earth are either extinct or trapped in another realm, he’s the only one available after being revived by Daolon.
  • Say My Name: Shendu's final line of the episode as he's shown being sealed within Section 13's vault is him yelling "CCCCHHHHAAAANNNN!".
  • Series Fauxnale: This has all the qualities expected of a final episode: Shendu, the series' initial Big Bad is brought Back from the Dead only to be returned to the same situation he was in during the first episode; Daolon Wong, who's been the main antagonist since partway through last season, loses his magical abilities and is arrested; the Enforcers are returned to human as well and are arrested, which combined with Valmont's arrest in an earlier episode this season, ends the threat of the Dark Hand for good. As it is, we've still got two seasons left to go.
  • Too Desperate to Be Picky: Shendu is resurrected by Daolon to be the "noble dragon" but is still a treacherous demon sorcerer. He's also the only viable candidate for the Dragon Talisman power, as the sole dragon on Earth. Presumably, Daolon doesn’t want to conjure a regular dragon because they’re just too dangerous for his extraction spell and would rather turn to a dragon intelligent enough to negotiate with.
    • The power of combustion itself can count, as its options are either to be lost forever, or go to the next dragon that shows up on earth, regardless of their qualities.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Daolon Wong entered a deal with Shendu, a demon sorcerer, and expected the demon to keep his end of the bargain. Shendu even points out that keeping promises isn't his thing.
  • You Can't Thwart Stage One: The heroes are unable to stop Daolon Wong from resurrecting Shendu, leading to the conflict of the second half of the episode as they try to find the means to defeat Shendu after the Demon Sorcerer becomes the bigger threat.
