Recap / Jack of All Trades S1E12 "Up The Creek"

Go To

Jack's old war-buddies Lewis and Clark bumble their way onto Palau-Palau and now he and Emilia have to rescue them from the Governor.

Tropes featured in this episode:

  • Anachronism Stew: Croque proclaims "you are not in Kansas anymore!"
  • Artistic License – History: While Lewis and Clark would fight in the War of 1812 under President Thomas Jefferson, they didn't fight in the American Revolution.
  • Epic Fail: Lewis and Clark decided to go into the "exploring" business and went to make the Western half of the Northern continent. The only problem is that they went over 10,000 miles in the wrong direction, finding themselves in Palau-Palau when they meant to go to Oregon.
  • Historical In-Joke: Lewis and Clark's expedition had been a disaster, missing Oregon by "about 10,000 miles." Jack got them on the right course and even set them up with a certain female Indian guide.
  • Rube Goldberg Hates Your Guts: Lewis and Clark wind up tying Jack and Emilia next to a series of experiments that would eventually explode.
  • Selective Magnetism: Applied to the Governor's armor to avert Lewis and Clark's execution.
  • Still Fighting the Civil War: When Jack reunites with his war-buddies Lewis and Clarke, they still think that the Revolutionary War is still going on. When Jack tries convincing them of the truth, they take one look at Emilia and presume that not only is the war still going, but that Jack had gone turncoat and that the island (which they think is US territory) is under British occupation. It takes the Daring Dragoon saving them from an execution and a (likely forged) letter from the President for them to believe him.
