Recap / It Feels More Like A Memory Chapter 36 Despite Our Estrangement

Go To

"despite our estrangement" contains examples of:

  • all lowercase letters: Like every other chapter title of this fic, this chapter's title is in all lowercase letters.
  • Character Name Alias: In-Universe example. Joan of Arc, referred to as Jeanne d'Arc in French, is a real-life historical figure and is also considered a historical figure in the fic, except with the extra significance of being a Seer. Aaron tells Lafayette to call him "Jean," "After your nation's rather famous Jeanne." This is also a Justified Trope in-universe, since Aaron wants Lafayette to put the context together with this alias and conclude the person talking to Lafayette is the Seer, Aaron Burr.
  • Dean Bitterman: Edward Barnard, headmaster of Eton College, kept order mostly through force of ridicule.
  • Idiosyncratic Episode Naming: Following the convention of naming every chapter title after a Hamilton lyric, this chapter takes its title from the line "Despite our estrangement, I'm your man" from "You'll Be Back."
  • Sadist Teacher: Master Heath, known for being one of the cruelest teachers at Eton College and who keeps order in the classroom through humiliation. He gives a month of detentions to a boy who whispers to Aaron where the class left off on a reading.
  • Shown Their Work: A coarse and clumsy-looking Edward Barnard who kept order by force of ridicule really was replaced by a John Foster as headmaster of Eton College in 1765.
