Recap / Iron Fist (2017) S2E4 "Target: Iron Fist"

Go To

When a reorganization within the Hatchet gang threatens to destabilize Chinatown, Misty Knight takes part in the argument out of concern for Danny Rand's involvement. Davos's plan is sped up when he attacks a warehouse at the port to get another artifact that is of great importance to his plan. Danny's recklessness gets him in trouble and gives Davos a decisive win.

Tropes

  • Bullying a Dragon: Despite obviously knowing Walker is an easily irritable dangerous person, Joy thinks it's a good idea to not only stay alone with her, but go through her papers and other possessions right in front of her despite Walker warning her to not do that. Predictably, this gets her pissed.
  • Call-Back: The corpse of the previous Iron Fist very well may be that of the 1948 Iron Fist that Bakuto had shown Danny footage of during his stay in the Hand compound.
  • Combat Pragmatist: Walker, as befitting of an assassin. She begins her fight with Danny by injecting him with a syringe full of sedatives. And then plays hit-and-run till the drugs take effect.
  • Continuity Nod: Misty has a robotic hand after losing hers in The Defenders.
  • Choke Holds: Walker flips after Joy goes through her stuff at her apartment and puts her into a choke hold.
  • Dramatic Irony: Danny tries to ring Joy and warn her that Davos is dangerous, just before Walker carries out Joy's order to kidnap Danny and bring him to Davos.
  • Fantasy-Forbidding Father: Joy tells Walker that Ward used to draw until their father told him to stop because he saw it as a "distraction".
  • Fighting Your Friend: Danny isn't exactly best buddies with Mary, but he does consider her a bit of a lost soul. When he recognizes her as his attacker (though it's actually her Walker personality), he tries to calm her down and refuses to fight until it's too late.
  • Headphones Equal Isolation: Invoked; Walker puts in her earphones when Danny screams after being cut, presumably so her more sympathetic Mary personality won't surface.
  • How We Got Here: The episode opens with Danny lying in the ground on the PATH platform, surrounded by shattered glass after being attacked by Walker. Most of the episode takes place getting to that point since the aftermath of the failed parley between the Golden Tigers and the Hatchet Gang.
  • Instant Sedation: Averted. Danny is conscious for several minutes before the drugs take effect.
  • Just Train Wrong: Once again, a PATH train stands in for the New York City Subway.
  • Neck Snap: Davos snaps the neck of a mook at the warehouse of the Golden Tigers.
  • No-Sell: Seeing Danny is about to do a Ground Punch with the Iron Fist, Walker just crouches behind a pillar avoiding most of the blast wave.
  • Rejected Apology: Ward finally tries to reach out to his sister, but his efforts only infuriate her as she believes he's trying to bring her back into his fold.
  • Revealing Cover-Up: Danny recognises the bruise on Mr Yang's neck as a Touch of Death that only he and Davos knew.
  • Trashcan Bonfire: Davos and the Crane sisters lack the proper lighting for their ceremony, but make do.
  • Undercover Cop Reveal: Turns out that the guys that caused Danny to think the parlay was under attack were undercover cops conducting a sting, and a deep undercover friend of Misty's is now in the hospital thanks to Danny.
  • Women Are Wiser: Colleen, Misty and Sherry all try to restrain their headstrong male associates. Averted with Joy who point-blank refuses her brother's "olive branch", wanting nothing more to do with him, and gives both Walker and Davos the go-ahead to seize Danny.
  • Worf Had the Flu: Danny is blindsided by Walker, then he is reluctant to fight her due to recognizing her as Mary, resulting in him being drugged. By the time he defends himself against Walker, he's already wobbly from the drugs and had taken a few hits. Ironically, if Mary hadn't introduced herself to Danny (a fact that infuriated Walker), Danny probably wouldn't have been shocked enough for Walker to so easily surprise him.
