Min and Ryan wake up on the train and meet Kez, a talking, floating concierge bell.

Tropes:

  • The Cuckoolander Was Right: Kez says she mistook the dial for a vending machine. Turns out, during the "present" time period, it really does look like part of a vending machine.
  • Convection Shmonvection: When set to a volcanic, primordial era, Ryan only complains that the car is now too hot, instead of immediately bursting into flames or suffocating from the molten environment.
  • Evolutionary Levels: The theme of the entire car, controlled by a thermostat like device called the Eon Oscillator on a wall adjacent to both the exit door and a vending machine. There is an ice age as stated by the title, a primordial molten era, a primeval jungle era, a future desert wasteland, and finally the present in the exact middle. The denizens change with the car's eras, against their will, a fact they're not happy about.
  • Forced Transformation: The denizens of the car are not happy to have their genes scrambled as they're forced to rapidly evolve or devolve to fit whatever era the car is set to. Moreso that they were planning a ski trip beforehand, and are not really dressed for any environment, or body, other than their present ones.
  • Pocket Dimension: Kez describes the train world as this, except in incredibly vague terms that only further confuse the situation.
  • Reality-Changing Miniature: The dial controls the time period of the car, shifting it into the past or the future relative from the center. The denizens of the car imply they can reprogram it to work on individuals.
  • Ripple-Effect-Proof Memory: The dial changes the time period of the car without affecting the memories of its inhabitants.
  • You Wake Up In A Train Car: Ryan and Min wake up wearing strange jumpsuits, have metal boots strapped to their feet, are in the middle of a frozen tundra, have no idea how they got there, and the only person who can tell them what's going on is a floating, talking lobby bell who does a really bad job of explaining what the Infinity Train is and why they're there.
